Meet Jalisa Forbes of Brampton, Ontario

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalisa Forbes.

Hi Jalisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have always wanted to be in the fashion industry, I just didn’t know how and where. As a preteen, I would cut my clothes and sew them back together creating new pieces. I was the oldest of 6 so I got a lot of hand me downs and had to find ways to feel like myself and also fit in. After studying business, fashion and arts in high school, I made the decision to study fashion in college. I studied fashion business and it’s core for 1 year and a half before I dropped out. I was about to have my first child. During my down time, I started to post my style sets, would lend a hand to family a friends when they needed styling tips or an outfit picked out for them, and continued to volunteer at my local fashion shows. Before I knew it, I had built a small community through sharing my reviews on beauty products and styling my fashion finds.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! Honestly, I have lost and found myself many times on this journey. Motherhood can be hard, but I am forever grateful for my husband as he has always been my constant. He has always encouraged me to continue to pursue my dreams and never asked me to shrink myself. He truly is my biggest supporter.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a beauty and fashion blogger, stylist, designer, and product tester/reviewer. I love creating content surrounding my favorite products but I also love to try new ones. As for fashion, she has always been my happy escape. Right now, as I have perfected my blogging and reviewing side, I am finally putting more effort and passion back into fashion styling and shopping, and designing. My online boutique has been closed for about 3 years now and it’s time to open her up for business again. I am truly proud of how far I have come and that no matter how many breaks I take, I get back to it.

What matters most to you? Why?
Honesty, loyalty and authenticity matter most to me. Why? Because these values truly speak to who a person really is. An outfit can only hide so much about ones true nature. Eventually, your personality will sully a really good outfit. I pride myself in working with clients that are truly themselves all the time and I take fostering their authentic selves very seriously.
