Today we’d like to introduce you to Mirage Vanguard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My keys to success have been passion, faith in God, and relentless drive. Growing up with a father who is both an artist and a minister, I was rooted early in creativity and faith. I didn’t attend art school. Instead, I learned by watching him and committing to my own practice, even spending my childhood recess sketching and refining my craft.
I first officially stepped into the art world designing mixtape covers for local Atlanta artists, and by 2015, I was exhibiting my paintings in gallery shows. After experiencing burnout in my corporate career, I chose to pivot and learn the craft of framing, a decision that opened an entirely new path for me.
Looking back, I can see how every experience prepared me for what was ahead, and how God’s timing brought it all together. In 2025, those paths aligned when I became the owner of my Buckhead frame shop, Framing By Design, a venture I hope will become my life’s legacy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but every setback became a lesson that prepared me to step into ownership and entrepreneurship. This journey has required deep focus and discipline, often calling me to release distractions and accept that people will come and go as I build the right community around me. I’ve experienced different forms of loss along the way, but each one refined me and played a part in shaping who I am today and where I stand now.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a creative specializing in pop art, contemporary painting, and custom framing. I’m known for blending realism with pop art and for merging techniques that flow seamlessly between my artwork and my framing. I’m intentional about using high quality materials and designing frames that don’t just hold the art, but elevates it.
One of my proudest achievements is being a Black framer in an industry where Black frame shop owners are still rare. I use my platform to educate artists and collectors on the value of framing, while also training and encouraging more Black framers to enter the trade. Everything I do is rooted in detail and intention, from the art itself to the final presentation. What sets me apart is the perspective I bring and the way I execute every piece, making each one distinctly Mirage Vanguard.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is to keep God first and trust His plan, even when it doesn’t make sense in the moment. I’ve learned to believe that everything will work out for my good in the end, and to stay open and humble, knowing I don’t know everything. I’ve also learned how important it is to have the right team, because who you choose to partner with in business can truly make or break you so choose wisely.
Through it all, I’ve learned to keep going with faith and patience, even when the path feels unclear. What’s meant for you will not miss you, and every step is shaping you for what’s ahead.
