Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Beckles.
Hi Heidi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Essentially- My relationship with scent began in South America, Guyana, where fragrance was part of everyday life. I vividly remember Sunday mornings filled with aromas of Limacol, Incense, Frangipani, and the earthiness of the yard—scents that quietly shaped my understanding of memory and atmosphere.
Candles were not decorative—they were necessary. Frequent blackouts meant entire neighborhoods relied on candlelight, and that experience became the foundation of what would later become Lot 23 Chandler Co.
Fragrance, however, wasn’t always easy for me. At one point, I couldn’t tolerate it—it caused headaches and discomfort. But my mother wore scent in a way that felt like an extension of her, and over time, it became our bond.
After moving to the U.S. and working with high-luxury fashion houses in New York City (including private clients), I began to see fragrance differently—as a space where culture, memory, and refinement could exist together.
Lot 23 began with candles, rooted in where I was born. After losing my mother to cancer in 2022, perfume became something more than our Skype Calls— it extends a way to stay connected to her. It allows me to continue that bond and share her memory through every experience we create.
Today, Lot 23 Chandler Co. is a slow-scent atelier in Atlanta, centered around one idea: what does the past smell like?
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—and I don’t think it was meant to be.
Building Lot 23 Chandler Co. meant introducing a concept like slow scent, which required people to experience fragrance in a more intentional, unfamiliar way. That came with its own challenges—translating something deeply personal into something others could understand and value.
There have also been moments of navigating individuals who attempt to replicate the vision without understanding the depth behind it—the history, the culture, the loss, and the intention that shape it. That, in itself, has required clarity, protection, and staying grounded in authenticity. Steadfast in strength and strategy to our clients.
On a personal level, losing my mother in 2022 was one of the most difficult chapters. Creating while grieving wasn’t easy, but it gave the work a deeper purpose—transforming fragrance into a way to hold memory and connection.
Alongside that, there’s been the ongoing work of building—refining systems, scaling experiences, and balancing creativity with structure. Each challenge, though, has strengthened the foundation and reinforced exactly why this work matters.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lot 23 Chandler Co.?
Lot 23 Chandler Co. is a slow-scent atelier based in Atlanta, where fragrance is approached as memory, atmosphere, and quiet expression. We create immersive perfume and candle-making experiences, along with bespoke and private label fragrances, all designed to feel intentional and educational.
What we offer is not casual mixing. Each guest is guided through a structured yet fluid process that moves beyond randomness—grounded in balance, composition, and restraint. Our aim is for every person who sits with us to leave not just with a fragrance, but with a sense of understanding—as an apprentice to the art of scent.
Our work is rooted in the nuance of clean, considered compositions that explore both masculine and feminine energies without limitation. It’s less about labels, and more about how a scent settles on the skin, how it moves, how it remembers.
At its core, Lot 23 is built on one question: what does the past smell like? Everything we create is an invitation to answer that—slowly, personally, and with intention.
What I’m most proud of is that people leave with more than an object. They leave with clarity, connection, and something that feels entirely their own.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
There are several ways to work with Lot 23 Chandler Co., depending on the level of experience or collaboration desired.
Guests can book our in-studio perfume and candle-making sessions in Atlanta, purchase our seasonal fragrance creation’s, or invite us to design off-site experiences for private events, brands, and corporate gatherings.
We also collaborate with select partners on bespoke fragrance development and private label collections, where scent becomes an extension of their identity.
For those looking to align creatively, we welcome thoughtful collaborations with creators, institutions, and brands who value storytelling, culture, and experience.
And for those simply looking to support—engaging with our work, sharing the experience, and returning to create again is one of the most meaningful ways to be part of what we’re building.
Everything we do is rooted in intention, so we approach each partnership with care, alignment, and a shared appreciation for the art of scent.
