Check Out Jean Francillon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jean Francillon.

Jean, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jean Francillon. I was born in Haiti and moved to the United States at the age of seven, growing up in Brooklyn, New York, where I was first introduced to fashion. New York is fast-paced, and it forces you to grow up quickly. My father always made sure we were well dressed—especially for church. While other kids in the neighborhood played outside on Sundays, we were the ones in full suits. That stuck with me.

After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Marketing, I moved to Florida, where my passion for fashion really began to grow. I worked in retail, where I learned how to sew, and from there I started building my own clientele. Clients would come to me for styling—weddings, engagements, birthdays—and that’s how my brand, MrGillysCloset, began to take shape.

One of my biggest challenges was finding clothes that truly fit me. That pushed me to connect with manufacturers and create custom pieces not just for myself, but for others who wanted something unique. I never wanted to look like everyone else wearing the same outfits from the same stores. I focused on developing a distinct style—something that stands out the moment I walk into a room.

Today, after years of dedication and growth, I’ve expanded my business with locations in Miami and Atlanta, and recently opened a new shop in New Jersey. My journey has always been about individuality, craftsmanship, and helping people feel confident in what they wear.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. As a business owner, unexpected situations come up all the time, and challenges are part of the journey. I’ve faced struggles along the way, but it really comes down to how you handle them.

Time management is key, and understanding what you can control versus what you can’t makes a big difference. Every challenge is a learning experience that helps you grow and move smarter in business.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We’d love to share more about our work. At MrGillysCloset, we specialize in custom suits and styling, creating pieces that reflect each client’s personality, lifestyle, and vision. No two days are the same—every client is different, and that’s what drives our creativity.

What sets us apart is our ability to design bold, eye-catching pieces while maintaining a perfect fit. We don’t just make suits—we create looks that stand out and feel personal. Fit is everything to us, and we take pride in how each garment sits on the body, making sure every client feels confident and elevated.

What I’m most proud of is being in the custom suit industry for over 15 years. Along the way, I’ve built real relationships—many of my clients have become like family. For me, it’s more than fashion. It’s about creating something meaningful and watching it come to life on the people who wear it.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important quality to my success is consistency. Showing up every day, staying committed to the craft, and delivering quality no matter the situation is what keeps everything moving forward.

Along with that, adaptability plays a big role. Every client is different, every situation is different, so being able to adjust, understand their vision, and bring it to life is key.

At the end of the day, it’s about staying disciplined, paying attention to detail, and always finding a way to elevate the experience for the client.
