Today we’d like to introduce you to Amaya Gage.
Amaya, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Amaya, and I moved to Atlanta when I was 19 years old, from Baltimore, Maryland where I was born and raised. I grew up a dancer and moved here for my professional career. I worked in the entertainment industry for just over three years, living here but also in Los Angeles. While the entertainment industry brought me so much joy, blessings and opportunities. It also taught me a lot of lessons early, and made me realize a bigger purpose for myself. I then started my journey in fitness. At first for my own mental/physical health but then became passionate about my results and in turn wanted to help others in their journey.
I got into group fitness, so I work full time as a coach at Orangetheory Fitness in Madison Yards. As well as began my own practice in personal training taking on more private clients! I love every second of it!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being young, and a woman at that in the entertainment industry is not an easy thing to navigate. I didn’t go to college, the industry was kind of my school and navigating my first few years of adulthood, being miles away from my family was TOUGH. Some days I still struggle with showing up for myself. And being in the fitness space now, showing up for others can be especially hard. But I wouldn’t change it for the world because I’m stronger because of it. I’ve learned lessons that for most, take awhile to learn so for that I am blessed.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Fitness Coach! I am a group fitness instructor at Orangetheory Madison Yards (the best location;)) and I am also a personal trainer for women. Specializing in strength training and conditioning. I’m known around my gym as the Pacer, the Superstar, the Dancer! I’m mostly known for my energy, and how it radiates and motivates others in my classes. As well as my hard work, discipline and dedication for showing up for myself and my clients even when we might not want to!
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my fondest memories is dinner with my whole family. I am third child of four, with a relatively big age gap between me and my older siblings so family dinners whenever we were all able were always important. Mom always cooked, my younger sister and I would set the table. Older siblings always ran to the store for a last minute something mom needed. And Dad always came in at the perfect time when dinner was being served. All six of us would laugh at the dumbest things. And even after dinner was cleaned off our plates, we’d still stick around the table for an hour or two making jokes or play a game of Cards against humanity.
