Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jameeka Banks.
Hi Dr. Jameeka, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
First and foremost thank you for this platform and what you all do. I think it’s very important to highlight stories and people who inspire and motivate others. The world needs more positive stories.
So who am I? My name is Dr. Jameeka Banks. I am a New York native, born and raised. I moved to Atlanta, Ga in 2015. I’d be lying if I didn’t say that moving here was the best decision I could’ve made for myself being that I flourished so much here. I am a woman of very humbled beginnings. I grew up very displaced as my mom struggled with drug addiction to crack cocaine before I was even born (she has 14yrs clean now). I’m an 80’s baby so I’m aging myself a little here by saying that lol. With that being said, my life circumstances were challenging since birth. My mom lost me and my 2 younger sisters to the system when I was about 5 or 6 years old. From there I kinda bounced around until I got older. I was introduced to chaos, abuse, instability, violence and disfunction at a very young age because of it. Those things were my norm. My very first memories are of me being abused. I was molested at a very young age and then I ended up being raped at the age of 8 years old. Even having been sold for drugs and pushed into being trafficked at one point in time. It changed me as a child to where I grew up feeling like I always had to protect myself and be in survival mode. My dad was in jail at the time so he had no idea what was going on. Once he came home he gained custody of me from foster care but by then I was already damaged and abused. So much to the point that I became a defiant troubled teen.
My dad ended up sending me back to my mother a month before my 13th birthday. That summer I joined a gang. From there my entire life went down hill. I ended up fighting a lot which caused me to be kicked out of every high school I’ve ever attended until I ended up in jail facing multiple charges including gang affiliation and drugs charges. I was the youngest person on the adult ward, 16 years old. I was facing a total of 32 years. I thought my life was over. But by God’s grace it wasn’t. After receiving my GED in jail and turning my life over to God a majority of my charges were dropped and I was granted time served for my drug charges and was released from jail. From there I made it a point to do something differently with my life. I did face other challenges like becoming a teen mother, a domestic violence relationship, homelessness, and still trying to navigate healing from my past traumas. But from every bad thing that ever happened to me or that I experienced, God used it all for ministry and has propelled me forward in my purpose to inspire, motivate, and help other people heal from similar experiences in life.
So here I am! A business owner, a first generation college graduate and doctoral recipient, United Nations Global Ambassador for the Waterlight Save Initiative, the first greek member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., a prison minister, motivational speaker, nonprofit founder, youth mentor, sex trafficking activist & a recipient of many awards including the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award. My entire life is ministry. Even with my wealth firm I’ve opened last year. I don’t do sales, I do ministry. Simply serving my community and impacting others.
Adversity raised me, but God’s purpose gave me life and ministry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A smooth road??? ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!! I had to literally fight for who I am today. The greatest challenge in growth when you come from a dysfunctional background is UNLEARNING everything you’ve normalized. I had to die to myself in many ways. Spiritually, verbally, mentally, emotionally, all the above. When they say people become products of their environment what they mean is if that’s all a person knows and was taught, that’s all they know to become. So for me it was a lot of self reflection, accountability and changed behavior. That alone took a lot of work. But the driving force for me was not only wanting to prove every person who ever doubted me wrong, but also breaking generational curses and cycles for my son. I had him at 19. I made a promise to myself to never allow my child(ren) to experience the trauma I did. Even with me becoming homeless when he was 2. It was a choice I made when I realized I was in a domestic violence relationship with his father. I would have rather been homeless than to keep him in that toxic environment. So I left! I wanted a better life for him and myself. So I had to do better. I had to learn to be a mom and a business owner while healing. But I did it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The High Value Wealth Firm LLC/Vessels of Victory INC.?
So as I stated previously, my ENTIRE life is ministry. I started out in the dental field in 2012 with the intentions of becoming a dentist. I was in the field for 12 years before pivoting to finance when I realized becoming a dentist became harder when I began going through a divorce in 2021 and couldn’t move out of the state of Georgia with my kids for dental med school like I planned. I found my way into the finance space as a financial consultant offering credit repair services, business credit building, and funding. As my passion for financial literacy grew, I started going live on social media and then hosting free web seminars giving people free financial literacy tips. That flourished into me becoming a paid financial educator where I started offering financial literacy classes to the youth and also colleges and universities in partnership with an organization called Vibe Tribe University. Being an educator allowed me the opportunity to collaborate and work with some of the most prominent names in the industry like Morehouse College, The Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation and the NFL including teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Las Vegas Raiders. As a person who is constantly looking to add continuous value it made sense to become a licensed insurance agent and open up my of brokerage and add more services. Hence the birth of The High Value Wealth Firm LLC, a financial wealth brokerage dedicated to empowering individuals and families to build, protect, and sustain generational wealth through strategic financial education and tailored solutions by offering life insurance, credit repair software, business credit, and funding.
I now also mentor and teach others to become wealth brokers and life insurance agents. Some with little to no experience. My mentorship includes FULL mentoring and training. I do a full branding workshop as well as study sessions and preparation for state boards to become licensed. Agents are then trained to write policies. For those who aren’t interested in becoming life agents, they are fully trained to become wealth educators and brokers who offer credit repair services and funding. But insurance is my bread and butter. What most ppl don’t know and understand is not only is insurance an entry level skill that requires absolutely no degree to start, but it has unlimited earning potential. Most new insurance agents can make 6 figures their first year with the right mentorship, hard work and passion to learn. Not only are we providing security for families in the event of an emergency, but people also don’t know that life insurance, for example, gives people the ability to build wealth. That is what I teach and educate people on.
What I am most proud of with my business and what I do, is the impact I make in other people’s lives. I remember when I first started out in the credit space. Seeing my clients scores raise from a low 400″s to a mid to high 700’s and then hear their excitement when they go on to become first time homeowners or are able to purchase cars was a reward for me that money could NEVER compensate for. Mainly because I was that girl who knew what it felt like to have bad credit and not know how to fix it, build it, or leverage it. The one thing nobody can take from us is knowledge. So to be able to plant seeds that help other’s build generational legacy and wealth makes my heart full. Even with life insurance. Knowing that I am Insuring families and allowing them to have a longterm plan for their family and loved ones not only provides comfort for them, but also for me. That’s one less family who will feel a heavier impact or stress if something were to happy to them or their loved ones. Especially those in the black and brown community.
I want readers to know that they aren’t just getting a service with me. They’re getting a lifelong relationship that is there to support them financially, help build a solid plan for their future’s and also someone who cares more about serving them and their needs rather than chasing a dollar. My slogan is “I don’t do sales, I do ministry”, because I take pride in changing lives. Not just immediately or directly, but for generations to come.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me isn’t defined by how much money someone makes, to me it is defined by how many lives someone has impacted and changed for the better. Materials are cool. Money is great to have. But if at the end of it all that’s all someone has to show for themselves or they had to step on others to get there, then that’s not success to me. I always tell people that I am not an influencer or a sales woman. I am a role model and an impacter. When I’m no longer living, there are people whom I’ve served in my life whose lives I impacted that not only changed the trajectory of their life, but also their entire bloodline. Creating generational curse breakers. So to me, success will always be defined by what someone has done for others, not what they only achieve and do for themselves or obtain materialistically or financially.
