Daily Inspiration: Meet Ty Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Harris.

Hi Ty, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I got into construction, 7 years ago when I was working for the City of East Point. I started doing small handyman jobs on the side to support my growing family. One day after a conversation my wife, she told me that I was becoming very experienced in what I was doing, and should start getting deeper into the construction field.. Also as a homeowner, I wanted make sure that my business kept the satisfaction of the customer in mind. Built Different Construction was created out of a mindset, not just a business idea. We’ve always believed that construction should be done with integrity, quality, and a level of care that a lot of clients don’t experience. Too many people have stories about missed deadlines, poor communication, or work that doesn’t last, and we wanted to change that.

In the beginning, we started small, then started learning every aspect of the process, and building relationships. Every job mattered, whether it was a small repair or a full build, because we knew our reputation was being built with each project.
We didn’t just focus on doing more work, we focused on doing better work. We invested in our systems, our craftsmanship, and our client experience. We have grown to the point where we have also created Built & Listed realty, which helps guide our clients in buying, selling, and/or investing in real estate. Our goal is to make this a stellar experience. That’s really what separates us. We don’t just build structures, we build trust with our clients.

Built Different Construction thrives on helping our customer make new memories in their new home addition or remodel. The joy that comes with investing in your dream home and getting the desired outcome, is something that our business thrives on. We are where we are today because , of faith, consistency, and hard work. We are always still growing and learning. Our goal is to continue raising the standard in construction and showing people what ‘built different’ really means..

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No it has not been a smooth road. Initially there was a struggle to build a team, but now we have built a team that is resilient and reliable. Surviving Covid as a small business owner was another struggle we faced. I am still young, so I get a lot of skepticism at times when I tell people I am licensed. the construction industry does shift and change so sometimes it is a struggle to change our systems and workflow.

The construction industry is also full of people who do not show up or care for the customers, so we are working on changing that reputation and image, but moving with integrity and trust.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Built Different Construction specializes additions, new builds, home remodels, carpentry, bathroom remodels, kitchen remodels, deck builds. Basement remodels and roofing remodels.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Get out and make yourself known. also treating our customers with respect. 35% of our jobs come from past client referrals and hope to bring that percentage up more. find a reliable mentor and have them teach you everything that they know. Also my YouTube channel has brought me about 4 referrals as well.
Getting your work out to an audience is the best form of networking for me.
