Rising Stars: Meet ElJay Williams of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to ElJay Williams.

Hi ElJay , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey as an artist really began with a foundation in music, theater, and storytelling. I studied at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff on a choir scholarship, which is where I started developing not just my voice, but my understanding of performance, stage presence, and how to connect with an audience. From there, I continued training in acting, dance, and modeling, building a well-rounded foundation as an entertainer.

Over the years, I’ve taken the independent route—learning the business, building relationships, and creating opportunities without waiting for them. That journey has allowed me to perform on major stages, including opening for Ginuwine in Los Angeles, and to be featured in outlets like Music Connection Magazine and The Kansas City Star. Every step has been about growth, resilience, and staying true to my vision.

That vision really comes together with my latest single, “Duh.” The record represents confidence, clarity, and stepping fully into who I am as an artist. It blends Pop and R&B with an island-inspired energy, but more importantly, it reflects a mindset—sometimes the answer is obvious, and it’s about trusting yourself enough to move on it.

Today, I’m continuing to build not just music, but a full creative world around my brand—from visuals and performances to lifestyle products like my Kingdom fragrance line. Everything I do is intentional and connected. “Duh” isn’t just a single—it’s a statement of arrival, and a glimpse into everything that’s coming next.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—it’s definitely been a journey with its share of challenges. Choosing to move as an independent artist means you’re building everything from the ground up. There’s no blueprint handed to you, so I’ve had to learn the business, fund my own projects, build a team, and create opportunities through relationships and consistency. That comes with pressure—balancing creativity with strategy, and staying visible in an industry that moves fast.

There have also been personal challenges—moments of doubt, burnout, and feeling stretched while trying to show up at a high level in every area of life. At times, it felt like I was carrying the weight of the vision alone. But those moments taught me discipline, faith, and how to stay grounded in who I am and why I started.

When it came to creating “Duh,” there were obstacles in the process as well—from refining the sound to making sure the record felt authentic and elevated. I didn’t want to just release music—I wanted to release something that truly represented growth. Even now, preparing the visual rollout and building momentum behind the record has required patience, persistence, and belief.

But every challenge has sharpened me. It’s made me more intentional, more focused, and more prepared for what’s next. The road hasn’t been smooth—but it’s been purposeful. And “Duh” is a reflection of that journey—confidence earned, not given.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the core of everything I do is artistry and creative direction. I’m not just a recording artist—I’m a storyteller who builds full experiences. My work lives at the intersection of music, performance, and visual world-building. I specialize in blending Pop and R&B with intentional visuals, choreography, and energy that translate both on stage and on screen. Every record, every performance, every visual has a purpose behind it.

What I’m known for is creating a feeling. Whether it’s through my music or a live show, I focus on giving people an experience they can step into. With my latest single “Duh,” that meant building an island-inspired world that feels confident, elevated, and effortless—but still rooted in authenticity. From the sound to the visuals to the rollout, it’s all connected. That’s how I approach everything—I don’t just release songs, I create moments.

What I’m most proud of is staying true to that vision while doing it independently. There’s a different level of intention when you’re hands-on with every detail—from writing and recording to creative directing visuals and building out the brand. I’ve been able to take an idea and bring it to life across multiple lanes, including music, live performance, and even lifestyle branding with my Kingdom fragrance line.

What sets me apart is that I think beyond the record. I see the full picture—the stage, the camera, the audience, the brand, the story—and I bring all of those elements together into one cohesive experience. I’m not chasing trends, I’m building a world people can connect to. And “Duh” is just one entry point into that world.

How do you define success?
I define success as alignment—when who you are, what you create, and how you live all move in the same direction. It’s not just about numbers, recognition, or moments—it’s about building something that’s real, sustainable, and meaningful.

For me, success is being able to take a vision from an idea and bring it fully to life—on my terms. It’s having the freedom to create, to evolve, and to impact people through my art. With “Duh,” success isn’t just streams or views—it’s seeing people connect to the energy, the confidence, and the message behind it.

It’s also about growth. Becoming better in my craft, sharper in my mindset, and stronger in my purpose with every release, every performance, every opportunity. And at the same time, being in a position to open doors—not just for myself, but for others coming up behind me.

At the end of the day, success is legacy. It’s building something that outlives the moment—something people can feel, remember, and be inspired by long after the song ends.
