Conversations with Kurt Lee Wheeler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kurt Lee Wheeler.

Hi Kurt Lee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Kurt Wheeler is a Cherokee County Georgia based singer songwriter that crafts raw vulnerable portrayals of life in the American Southeast. He is a United States Air Force veteran. His musical expressions range from country to bluegrass to rock. His newest album Lathem town has received fantastic reviews from the United Kingdom to the United States from the Americana and Bluegrass world.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The musical journey has not always been smooth. There have been trials and tribulations. There have been victories and defeats. But it has been a journey that each victory and each valley has taught me lessons. I have faced a tremendous amount of rejection in music. I have been told ‘No’ way more times than I have been told. ‘Yes!’ in the journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer songwriter. I specialize in sharing my life journey because that’s the only journey I really know. And I find that the more I write about my own life the more it connects with other people’s lives. Pain is pain regardless of the address and hurt and loss are hurt and loss regardless of the bank account. I don’t know that I’m really much different from other singer songwriters. I would like to be able to think that my journey is unique but in reality it’s not. We all have our moments of loss and victory and then we share that through lyrics and melodies..

How do you think about luck?
I’m not much of a believer in luck be it bad luck or good luck. However, I did get asked to be in a lifetime movie: The Secret Life of a Good Wife. It’s amazing how much luck is generated through hard work and building relationships and how much bad luck is generated through feeling like a victim and feeling sorry for myself.
My view is work hard, work smart, then work harder and work smarter, and be ready to change your plans and be easy to get along with. Always keep in mind that it’s just Music and to be flexible.
