Community Highlights: Meet Die Laughing Comedy of Die Laughing Comedy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Die Laughing Comedy.

Hi Die Laughing Comedy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Die Laughing started as the brain child of JB King. I, Ryan Schrilla ran a few shows in north Georgia and JB had a mic as well as a show or two himself. Once we realized that the comedy scene needed some firepower, we combined forces and brought our rooms together and voila.

It started out small, grinding away for ticket sales (which never stops, only morphs slightly), and just word of mouth. Once a place sees that you do well or maybe the quality if high, then others start looking over the fence to your side. JB was and is good at running shows, I know the same world so when we just rinse and repeated that process over and over…you apparently become the biggest independent comedy producers in the state.

It’s been a wild ride so far

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes AND not at all. JB and I try to keep things smooth and easy but there are so many things that can screw up your comedic business plans. Weather, venues shutting down, comics drop, sporting events, time of year, personal life things, and so much more.

We risked it and pushed all in, over and over. Many times (way more than we’d like), we lost. Figuring out every market, city comedy versus rural comedy, taming crowds, so many things. You have to keep your head on a swivel.

We had a weekend run for an out of town comic and an ice storm happened. You can’t train for that.

As you know, we’re big fans of Die Laughing Comedy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We produce high quality comedy club experiences at venues, nightclubs, bars, distilleries, and speakeasys. We bring great standup shows to places and focus on talent, production and the customer experience.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Ah, good question. Beer and steak. As Die Laughing, it’s when people take the time and money to come to our show when they could have gone anywhere else and have a great time. The nights where we here “I needed this!” or “We haven’t been out in so long and this was fun!”

JB and I know how much it means to not have your time wasted along with some of your paycheck so we do our best to make every part of our shows exceed any expectations.
