Meet Kyirra Tillmon of Nail Therapy by KT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyirra Tillmon.

Kyirra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into the nail industry started in 2020. What began as a creative outlet quickly turned into something much bigger once I realized the impact I could have—not just through nails, but through helping women feel confident and cared for.

A big part of my drive comes from my personal story. I had my daughter at 12, and growing up with her, I always knew I wanted to show her that no matter how life starts, you can still build something meaningful for yourself. Everything I’ve worked toward has been rooted in that—leading by example and proving that you can do anything you truly put your mind to.

I became licensed in 2022 and shortly after stepped into my role as an instructor, which allowed me to expand beyond servicing clients and into educating other aspiring nail techs.

Over time, I made a major shift in my business by transitioning away from acrylic and focusing strictly on gel-based services like polygel and BIAB. That decision helped me align more with my mission of promoting healthy nails and long-term nail care. I also rebranded myself as a “Nail Therapist” because my work goes beyond aesthetics—it’s about restoration, structure, and confidence.

Today, I operate Nail Therapy by KT, where I provide luxury nail services and hands-on education. I’ve built a brand rooted in structure, retention, and professionalism, and I’m currently expanding through digital products and my Polygel Masterclass Tour. My goal has always been bigger than just doing nails—I want to help other women build real, sustainable businesses while showing them that success is possible with the right foundation.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all—it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve had to learn a lot through trial and error. In the beginning, one of my biggest struggles was confidence—second guessing my prices, my work, and whether I was truly good enough to build something long-term.

I also went through the phase that a lot of people don’t talk about—literally begging for clients, posting consistently and still not getting booked, and feeling overlooked while watching other nail techs thrive. That season was frustrating, but it forced me to really lock in on my skills, my branding, and how I showed up online.

Another challenge was setting boundaries. Early on, I tried to accommodate everyone, but that quickly led to burnout. I had to learn that structure, policies, and saying “no” are necessary if you want a sustainable business.

There were also financial growing pains—investing in products, education, and rebranding while still trying to stay afloat. And transitioning away from acrylic to focus strictly on gel products was a risk, but it was necessary for the direction I wanted my brand to go.

Overall, every challenge taught me something. It wasn’t smooth, but it helped me become more confident, more disciplined, and more intentional about the business I was building.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am the owner of Nail Therapy by KT, a luxury nail brand focused on healthy nail care, structure, and long-lasting results. I specialize in gel-based services, specifically polygel and BIAB (builder gel), and I’ve intentionally moved away from acrylic to create a more nail-focused, restorative experience for my clients.

What sets me apart is my approach—I don’t just “do nails,” I treat them. That’s why I’ve branded myself as a Nail Therapist. My services are centered around nail health, proper structure, and retention, while still delivering clean, luxury results. I also offer specialized services like Toe BBL and structured dry pedicures, which are designed to enhance and restore the natural nail safely.

Beyond servicing clients, education is a huge part of my brand. As a licensed instructor, I provide hands-on training through my Polygel Masterclasses, where I teach both beginner and advanced nail techs how to build strong foundations in their work and their business. I focus heavily on technique, structure, and professionalism—things that truly create longevity in this industry.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the standard I’ve created. Everything—from my policies to my services to my classes—is intentional and built around structure and professionalism. I’ve created a space where clients know they’re receiving quality, and where students know they’re gaining real, valuable knowledge.

I want readers to know that Nail Therapy by KT is more than just a nail service—it’s a brand built on purpose. Whether you’re booking a service or taking a class, the goal is the same: to elevate, educate, and create results that last.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is seeing growth—both in myself and in the people I pour into. Watching a client leave my chair more confident than when they walked in, or seeing one of my students apply what I taught them and start building their own business, is a different kind of fulfillment.

I’m also deeply motivated by my roles as a mother and a wife. Knowing that my daughter is watching me build, pivot, and stay consistent means everything to me, because I want to show her that she can create her own path and succeed at whatever she puts her mind to. At the same time, having a partner to grow with and build alongside brings me a sense of balance and purpose beyond business.

At the core of it, what makes me happy is knowing that what I’m building isn’t just about me—it’s impacting others, creating opportunities, and creating something meaningful that lasts.
