Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Shots.

Hi DJ, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Shots

I started DJ’ing in 2020/2021, here in Atlanta, Ga. I’m an open format DJ, that loves to bring people together with music. I learned how to dj by hanging with my mentor who is a dj, almost every single day. He was out of town one day and had a gig, but couldn’t make it due to flight issues. Which I had to cover this gig of his last minute and out of the blue. It was a pool party, and I had no idea how to set up any of the equipment, yet alone how to dj. Long story short, after FaceTime calls and getting all the equipment setup and sound going…. I literally had to learn how to dj(operate software, mix, transition, etc.) while dj’ing a live packed pool party. My mentor told me how to navigate, and it worked out. I must’ve done a good job, cause I got compliments on a good job. Then it just happened from there, to where I am now. I remember my mentor telling me that, “he doesn’t give lessons on dj’ing, but if I got my equipment. Then he would teach me.” I had roughly $1,000 to my name, and I found a mixer on Facebook marketplace . I drove to Florida, to buy my Pioneer S9 mixer, and it’’s been nothing but late nights, early mornings, long practice sessions, and a lot of hard work behind the scenes. I’ve been blessed to DJ for some of the biggest names in the industry and share the stage with LIFE LONG LEGENDS!!! I’ve DJ’ed parties for artist such as Benny the Butcher, Fabulous, Yung Bleu, to name a few. I’ve been able to travel and build relationships with amazing people. St. Simons Island, GA Miami, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, etc. This journey has been nothing short of amazing, and I’m thankful to God for every moment!!!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all!!! When I started out I was homeless, and wrecked my vehicle literally right after purchasing my mixer. I’ve experienced depression, anxiety, and other health issues. Having to catch expensive Uber’s with a vehicle load of equipment, to being under valued by promoters/owners/etc. Financial struggles, day to day cost of living. To sum it up No, It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I can say that with God each and every struggle that I’ve gotten over, has made me appreciate this journey even more. Building from the ground up, I can say I overcame those struggles and used them as building bricks to keep going!!!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Professional Open Format DJ/Host/Entertainer, I specialize in being an open format DJ/Host. I like to consider my ability to take you on a journey through multiple genres, cultures, and sounds throughout the world as one of my specialities. I create/curate life long experiences for the people to remember!!! My creative live mixes/mashups, DJ/Hosting abilities, curating parties to highlight the crowd, ability to adapt to any crowd/genre/etc.

I’m most proud of my team DreamTeam WorldWide!!! We work with artists and throw events highlighting artists, local small businesses, and community outreach. So that artist may grow along with the community, leaving no one out!!! We’ve been going strong for 3+ years now, and still going!!!

What sets me apart from others, would be that I’m a live VIBE DJ CURATOR!!! Meaning, I don’t pre set a playlist for any of my events(lol). I don’t think I’ve ever had a set playlist before a gig. I can say I planned one before, but it didn’t go as planned lol. I also don’t use pre recorded mixes lol, unless they are mine. I’ve noticed a lot of dj’s are using pre recorded or another dj mix/mashup lol
