Today we’d like to introduce you to Ty Williams.
Hi Ty, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out in modeling school back in 2019 getting my first taste of what it takes to become a model and was fortunate enough to attend my first fashion show with that program which ended up being Macy’s fashion show. After that COVID happended and now fast forward a few years to 2024 me and my family ended up moving from my home state California to Georgia. And after a few years past and got my taste if adulthood such as owning a car and attending college I got the courage back to dive back in and never looked back. Networking to the fullest has been my biggest success as a model because it’s very true that “you never know who you’ll meet”. Due to that I’ve connected with 40+ photographers and models. Now majority of my friends are either models or photographers. My success so far as one of the best unsigned modes in Georgia has definitely been a up and down rollercoaster. The ups in my career has been the connections made that has casted me for local brand jobs directly and fashion show experiences I’ve had and attended including 2 Macy’s shows. After getting plenty of experience as a model for 2 years back in the game I’ve had good redirection in what I want as a model and how I want to pursue my career. Receiving the correct advice and following the right people will give you the success you need. Never feel your bigger than the program. Never feel like you should lessen yourself to fit in or be accepted. Go where your celebrated. Go where your look is booked which is some of the best advice I can give to others. Of course there’s plenty of ugly things in this industry such as miscommunication, entitlement, users, & rejection without reason. Once you feel like you can survive through those things to make your dream come true as a model then this is for you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In all honesty there are a bit more struggles than success. It’s a female dominated industry which is something not talked about when your the opposite gender. It’s usually the women struggling in a male dominated industry. With that being said its alot of biast photographers that’ll go above and beyond for female models from giving them a free shoot to providing clothes etc etc. When it comes to men we get harder treatment such as when it comes to us male models we all think in lower paying immediately based off of us being a male model and the fact that we are looked at a simpler and have less to work with since we don’t have a whole bunch of hair and makeup but that’s honestly not right because at the end of the day we are providing me dedication is my serving as a female model is regardless if we don’t have the same body features. I’ve been real time seeing model castings the female and male models wanted for a job and the fact that they have the same position as far as in the work needed but yet I had two very different prices made a huge difference and how we are treated.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a professional model here in Atlanta Georgia I’m in the commercial print side of modeling. I’m most known for my spec ads and creative projects that had big engagement such as my Levi’s spec ad, African dandyism shoot, Queen & Slim shoot, and a futurism tech wear brand shoot. I’m most proud of my spec ads, creative projects, anda few fashion shows. I feel like those gave me a lot of posing experience and also having the experience with working with other creatives and models. Having that type of experience helps me understand the entire dynamic of lighting, photographers, stylists, assistances, & videographers. What sets me apart from others is knowing my vision in how I want to have my career. I don’t limit myself to endless possible opportunities relating to my career. I can be a commerical print model today and a beauty model tommorrow and a athletic model the day after that. I know what I’m capable of as a model and that helps me maximize the markets I want to pursue from domestic to international jobs. So with that being said you’ll see a lot of different types of shoots relating to my goals as a model from spec ads, beauty work, and commerical test shoots. And that’s all due to me taking the time to study the different types of modeling and what type of modeling aligns with your lip because that’s super important and once you figure that out you do nothing but focus on that to get the results you need.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me is having the best representation from my vision and goals as a model. When you have the right people who know how to represent your look which can be anything from skin tone to body proportions and hairstyle helps a model stay with them busy and various markets which is what I’m looking for and what I find the most important thing that relates to my career. And when that does happen you end up being signed to multiple modeling agencies domestically and internationally to have access to all of those markets to stay booked and busy that’s why some of the books and busy models you come across will have four to six modeling agencies in their bio all around the world because they are in all of those markets meaning one day they can have a booking in Brazil and another booking in New York and the book that I can be in Tokyo. That’s the dream for me.
