Community Highlights: Meet Marisu of Catara Advertising

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisu.

Hi Marisu, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began with a deep passion for business, creativity, and understanding people consumer behaviors. I studied Economics with a specialization in Business and Marketing, but beyond academics, I was always fascinated by how brands could create emotional connections and impact culture.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with companies across different industries and international markets, helping them transform ideas into brands with purpose and long-term vision. What started as a passion for marketing evolved into building businesses, developing products, leading campaigns, and helping entrepreneurs bring their visions to life.

As the founder of Catara Advertising, I focused on creating strategies that connect authentically with multicultural audiences while combining creativity with strong business foundations. Throughout my career, I’ve worked on everything from brand launches and product development to international expansion and strategic consulting.

One of the biggest lessons in my journey has been understanding that success is not built only through talent, but through consistency, emotional intelligence, adaptability, and resilience. There were many moments of uncertainty, especially as a young woman leading projects and businesses at an early age, but I always trusted my vision and continued learning and evolving.

Today, I continue focusing on building brands & businesses, creating opportunities, and inspiring others, especially women and entrepreneurs to believe that their ideas, culture, and authenticity can become powerful businesses and meaningful legacies.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and business leaders, a big part of my journey has been learning how to navigate uncertainty, pressure, and constant reinvention.

One of the biggest challenges was building credibility at a young age while leading projects, teams, and strategies in highly competitive industries. Early in my career, I often found myself in rooms where people underestimated me because of my age or because I was a woman in leadership. I had to learn very quickly how to trust my knowledge, stand firm in my ideas, and let my work speak for itself.

Another challenge was understanding that entrepreneurship is not only about creativity or vision; it also requires emotional resilience. There are moments where you face financial pressure, difficult decisions, failed ideas, unexpected changes in the market, or projects that do not go as planned. Learning how to manage emotions, adapt, and continue moving forward has been one of the most important parts of my growth both personally and professionally.

As someone who works deeply in branding and business development, I also learned that growth requires evolution. Sometimes you outgrow certain environments, partnerships, or even old versions of yourself. That process can be uncomfortable, but it is necessary to continue building something bigger and more aligned with your purpose.

At the same time, every obstacle has helped shape the leader I am today. The challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and the importance of building businesses with authenticity and long-term vision instead of simply chasing short-term success.

As you know, we’re big fans of Catara Advertising . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the founder and CEO of Catara Advertising, a multicultural advertising and brand development agency focused on helping businesses transform ideas into strong, purpose-driven brands. Over the years, we have worked with companies across multiple industries including hospitality, food and beverage, beauty, wellness, retail, real estate, consumer products, and international businesses looking to expand into new markets.

What truly sets us apart is that we do not believe in “one-size-fits-all” marketing. We focus heavily on understanding the DNA of a brand; its story, culture, vision, and long-term purpose, before creating strategies. For us, branding is much deeper than aesthetics or social media content; it is about building emotional connection, trust, and positioning that creates lasting impact.

We specialize in brand development, branding, product launches, marketing strategy, multicultural campaigns, creative direction, content production, and business growth strategies. A large part of our work also involves helping entrepreneurs and companies bring concepts to life from the very beginning from naming and branding to packaging, digital presence, and launch execution.

One thing I am especially proud of is the diversity of brands and entrepreneurs we have been able to support throughout the years. Many businesses come to us with only an idea, and seeing those concepts evolve into real brands with market presence, loyal communities, and business growth is incredibly rewarding.

I am also proud that our agency has remained very human and relationship-driven. In a world where marketing can sometimes feel overly automated or disconnected, we prioritize authenticity, culture, creativity, and meaningful storytelling. We genuinely care about the vision behind every business we work with.

What I would want readers to know is that our mission goes beyond marketing campaigns. We help build brands with identity, clarity, and purpose; brands that people can connect with emotionally and that have the potential to create long-term legacy and impact.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m someone who constantly looks for inspiration through business, psychology, branding, leadership, and innovation. I believe continuous learning is one of the most important investments you can make in yourself, especially as an entrepreneur and creative leader.

Some books that have influenced me over the years include The 48 Laws of Power for understanding strategy and human behavior, The Lean Startup because of its perspective on innovation and adaptability, and Start With Why, which deeply aligns with my belief that brands and businesses should be built around purpose and emotional connection. I also enjoy books and coaches around emotional intelligence and personal growth because leadership starts with understanding yourself.

In terms of podcasts and content, I enjoy listening to conversations around entrepreneurship, branding, psychology, and culture. I like platforms that combine business with storytelling and human experiences rather than only focusing on numbers or trends.

For work and organization, apps like Monday.com, Slack; help me manage projects and collaborate with teams efficiently, while tools powered by AI and automation have also become an important part of brainstorming, strategy development, and creative workflows.

Beyond specific resources, I think one of the biggest sources of inspiration for me is traveling, coaching and observing people, culture, and consumer behavior in everyday life. Some of the best marketing and branding insights come from understanding how people connect emotionally with experiences, stories, and communities.
