Today we’d like to introduce you to Niko Millz.
Hi Niko, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in Miami, which is where a lot of my influence comes from. I moved to Atlanta when I was really young and have been here ever since, but that Miami energy always stuck with me. Music was everywhere growing up. My dad was a huge hip-hop head, while my mom loved soft rock, jazz, R&B, reggaeton, and house music.
One of my earliest memories is laying on the carpet listening to my mom’s cassette tapes for hours. I would play Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” on this old yellow Walkman with those thin over-the-ear headphones and just get lost in it.
I was introduced to EDM around 16 years old when my friends found this DJ software and started mixing trap and dubstep. I thought it was the coolest thing ever, so I downloaded the software myself and started DJing in my bedroom. They would throw house parties and DJ off a tablet, and at the time it all felt like pure chaos and creativity in the best way.
Eventually, I stopped playing for a few years, but everything changed in 2021 when I went to EDC Orlando. That experience completely shifted my world and made me fall in love with house music. When I went back again in 2024, that’s when DJing really took off for me.
Around that same time, my friend Kenny approached me with the idea of creating a house music collective in Atlanta. The goal was to bring some of the sounds and vibes of Miami to a city where the house scene was still growing. What really made me commit was the focus on community and inclusion. It wasn’t just about parties or music, it was about creating a space where everyone felt welcome.
Soon after, SPM was born.
As SPM grew, so did my passion for DJing. Since then, I’ve gone from practicing in my bedroom to playing festivals, throwing events, DJing at places I used to walk past without ever imagining I’d perform there, and even meeting artists I looked up to when I first started. Now I’ve stepped into producing as well, and it feels like this journey is only getting started.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always the smoothest road, but I wouldn’t say it was hard either. A lot of it came down to time, patience, and consistency. I spent countless hours practicing, searching for music, and listening back to my mixes trying to figure out what felt right. Sometimes I didn’t like the mix itself, and other times I realized I didn’t even like the songs I was choosing.
As I started meeting more people in the industry and getting guidance from others, I slowly began to discover my sound and what I truly wanted my music to feel like. That eventually pushed me into producing, which honestly felt like learning an entirely new language. I spent so much time studying the science behind music production, along with the history and evolution of house music itself.
Over time, everything started to click. I found a sound that feels authentic to me, and now I’m focused on taking it to the next level.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m bringing back the sound of Miami club music from the ’80s and ’90s and blending it with modern house music. My goal is simple, when you hear my music, you have no choice but to dance. Fast grooves, unique sounds, and familiar lyrics all come together to create something that feels nostalgic but fresh at the same time.
When I DJ, I want people to fully let go and enjoy themselves. I especially love seeing people who don’t normally listen to house music connect with it for the first time. A big part of that comes from using familiar basslines, recognizable vocals, and remixes of songs we all grew up loving. I want my sets to feel fun, energetic, and welcoming to everyone, whether you’re deep into dance music or hearing it in a new way for the first time.
