Today we’d like to introduce you to Tania Vasser.
Hi Tania, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Once Upon a Slime actually started because I wanted my kids to spend less time attached to screens. One day, my daughter, who was about 6 or 7 at the time, suggested we make slime together. I went out, bought all the supplies, and we jumped right in. It was fun, but it was also a complete mess. By the end of it, I remember saying I would never make slime again.
While I was cleaning up the kitchen, I picked up a piece of slime from the table and kept playing with it absentmindedly as I cleaned. Once everything was finally put away and the kitchen was spotless again, I looked down and realized I had been squeezing and maneuvering the slime the entire time without even thinking about it. In that moment, everything started clicking for me.
I became fascinated by what slime was actually doing. I started learning more about sensory play, creativity, science, math, and how slime naturally engages the senses while encouraging focus, imagination, and hands-on learning. It honestly blew my mind.
Not long after that, we booked our first event at an elementary school, and we’ve been stuck ever since. Today, Once Upon a Slime creates interactive experiences that blend creativity, sensory play, entertainment, and education for kids, families, schools, and communities.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges was getting people to see that slime could be more than just a messy toy, especially when we were coming into the same homes where kids may have already ruined carpets, furniture, or tables with slime before. A lot of parents immediately thought about the mess and cleanup before anything else.
We really had to work to change that perspective and show people that what we do is structured, interactive, and intentional. Once families, schools, and community groups actually experienced our workshops, they started seeing the bigger picture.
Over time, we’ve been able to show how slime can support sensory needs, introduce science and math concepts, encourage creativity, and build confidence in a fun, hands-on way. Most people leave realizing it’s about so much more than slime, and they also appreciate that we’ve created an experience that’s engaging for kids without leaving chaos behind.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets Once Upon a Slime apart is the experience we create. We’re known for making slime fun, organized, interactive, and family-friendly while bringing completely mobile experiences directly into schools, homes, and community events.
Our workshops are designed to be inclusive for different ages, abilities, learning styles, and sensory needs, while naturally incorporating creativity, science, math, and confidence-building into the fun.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We’re especially proud of our focus on youth ownership and the family support behind it. I’m known as Mrs. Tee (The Slime Queen), but the business was inspired by my daughter Anari (The Slime Princess), who is now 12 years old and the official owner of Once Upon a Slime, so honestly, she’s my boss these days.
Anari’s dad, Mr. Rick, became the heavy-duty muscle and the unexpected slime expert of the family, even though he absolutely hated slime in the beginning. Then there’s her 8-year-old brother, our self-proclaimed “Play-Doh Pro,” who still prefers Play-Doh over slime but somehow teaches both effortlessly.
And then there’s me, Mrs. Tee, the “everything person” behind the scenes. I wear all the hats, from planning and teaching to creating, organizing, and making sure everything comes together the way it should.
What started as a kitchen table idea has grown into something that encourages creativity, confidence, leadership, and family connection while showing kids that their ideas really can turn into something meaningful.
