Conversations with Ami Ahuja

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ami Ahuja.

Hi Ami, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey began with a simple dream: to build a better future through hard work, faith, and resilience. I came to America with very little, but I carried something far more valuable determination. Like many immigrants, I started from the ground up, working wherever opportunity allowed. My early jobs included working in shoe stores, jewelry stores, Pizza place, cookie store and perfume retail and distribution. Every role taught me discipline, customer service, humility, and the importance of showing up consistently, even when life felt uncertain.

Those early years shaped who I am today. I learned that success is never built overnight it is built through sacrifice, persistence, and the willingness to keep moving forward when no one sees the struggle behind the scenes. While balancing family responsibilities, studies, and work, I slowly began building a life rooted in purpose and stability.

As my journey evolved, so did my mission. I transitioned into the financial and insurance industry with a passion for helping families protect their futures and create long-term security. In 2018, I joined a financial institution, and through consistency, leadership, and a commitment to serving others, I grew into leadership roles including Marketing Director and later Senior Marketing Director. I became known not just for business growth, but for leading with ethics, education, and heart.

But my story has never only been about business. I am first and foremost a wife, a mother, and someone deeply committed to family values. My husband Sonny and our children have been my foundation through every season of life. Whether building businesses, leading teams, or speaking on stages, I have always believed that true success means creating balance between ambition and family.

Over the years, I also discovered the importance of empowering women to believe in themselves. That passion led me to build *A Woman’s Journey*, a growing community focused on mindset, support, growth, and personal empowerment. Through mentorship, speaking, and education, I strive to help women recognize their worth, strengthen their confidence, and create independent futures for themselves and their families.

Outside of business, discipline has always been part of my identity. I earned a black belt in Taekwondo, pursued fitness and wellness, and embraced dance as a form of joy and expression. I believe strength and grace can exist together. Whether I am leading a team, hosting hundreds of people, or helping one family make better financial decisions, I try to bring excellence, warmth, and authenticity into everything I do.

Today, when I look back at the woman who arrived in America with no money and big dreams, I feel gratitude. Every challenge became part of the foundation. Every setback taught resilience. Every lesson prepared me to lead with empathy and purpose.

My journey is proof that success is not about where you start it is about your willingness to keep going, stay disciplined, and lift others along the way. And for me, this journey is still unfolding.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has not been always smooth…

One of my biggest challenges was starting over in a new country with limited income and very little financial stability. Coming to America with $100 meant learning how to survive, adapt, and build a future from scratch while carrying the emotional weight that many immigrants quietly face.

I was willing to do whatever it took to create opportunities for myself and my family while living on a limited income. Those years demanded long hours, discipline, and perseverance.

Another major challenge was balancing many roles at once. While building my career and businesses, I was also managing family responsibilities, raising children, supporting my household, and continuing my education. Building a business from scratch while maintaining a strong home life required constant sacrifice, time management, and emotional strength.
As a woman in leadership, I also faced the challenge of proving myself in spaces where consistency, credibility, and trust had to be earned over time. Instead of relying on hype or shortcuts, I chose to lead through integrity, work ethic, and results.

I have experienced the pressure many women quietly carry trying to care for everyone else while still pursuing their own dreams. Through all of it, I stayed grounded in discipline, family values, and personal growth. My challenges became the foundation for the empathy and leadership I bring to others today.

What makes my story meaningful is not that the path was easy; it’s that I kept going with grace, even during the difficult seasons.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk, to me, has never meant being reckless. I believe there is a difference between taking blind risks and taking calculated risks rooted in vision, preparation, and faith. Some of the biggest growth in my life came from moments where I stepped into uncertainty, even when there were no guarantees.

One of the biggest risks I took was immigrating to America with limited income and very little financial security. Leaving behind familiarity and starting over in a completely new country required emotional strength, adaptability, and courage. I had no roadmap only the belief that through hard work and consistency, I could build a better future for my family.
Another major risk was building a business while balancing family responsibilities, work, and education. There were moments when stability would have been the easier choice, but I knew growth often requires discomfort. I was willing to work long hours, learn new skills, and sacrifice short-term comfort for long-term opportunity.

Entering the financial services industry was also a significant step outside my comfort zone. It required me to grow as a leader, communicator, and entrepreneur. I had to overcome self-doubt, learn to trust my voice, and build credibility over time. But I believed deeply in the mission of helping families create security and make informed financial decisions.

My perspective on risk today is simple: every meaningful achievement involves some level of uncertainty. The key is to take risks with wisdom, preparation, and integrity. I do not believe in chasing shortcuts or hype. I believe in calculated decisions backed by discipline, education, and long-term thinking.

I also think many people underestimate the risk of staying comfortable. Sometimes the greatest risk is ignoring your potential because fear feels safer than growth. For me, growth has always come from being willing to step forward, even before I felt completely ready.

At this stage in my life, I still take risks but they are intentional risks. Risks that align with my values, my family, and the impact I want to create.
