Today we’d like to introduce you to Key Glover.
Hi Key, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey began about 20 years ago during a season when I felt like I was spinning my creative wheels without seeing the return I desired. Through prayer and journaling, I asked God a simple but life-changing question: ‘What gift do You want me to use that will bring You glory, make me happy, and allow me to make a living?’ The answer came quickly—cosmetology.
At the time, I was attending college at AIU, and I knew leaving that path to pursue cosmetology wouldn’t be popular with everyone, especially my mom. But I trusted what God had revealed to me and stepped out in faith. I enrolled at Proway Hair School in Stone Mountain, Georgia, and while learning the craft, I was also growing spiritually. That season built my confidence, strengthened my faith, and convinced me that with God, nothing could stop me from pursuing my purpose.
From the beginning, prayer has been the foundation of every major decision I’ve made. I’ve always sought God’s direction, written down the vision, and taken disciplined action toward it. After earning my cosmetology license, I returned to school and completed my Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts while working alongside talented salon professionals who inspired me to think bigger and expand my gifts.**
In 2010, I opened my first salon in West Midtown Atlanta. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to serve as an international platform artist for brands like ORS and Mielle, work trade shows across the country and internationally, and be featured in several publications . Those accomplishments have been incredible milestones, but none of them happened alone. I’ve been blessed with family who prayed for me, supported me, and encouraged me along the way. And even in the seasons when I felt alone, God always provided exactly what I needed and kept me covered.
Today, I’m a Master Cosmetology Educator, salon owner, podcast host of BigEyedGirl, and soon-to-be founder of The Foundation Collective mentorship program. My passion for teaching and empowering others burns just as strongly as it did when I first started. The journey hasn’t been easy—there have been valleys, setbacks, and moments when I wanted to walk away—but I’ve learned that when purpose is attached to something, God doesn’t let go. I believe I’ve come this far through faith, courage, discipline, and a commitment to following the vision God placed in my heart.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
“No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. In fact, some of my greatest growth came during my most difficult seasons.**
One of the first major challenges came when I made the decision to leave college and enroll in cosmetology school. My mother didn’t believe cosmetology could provide a stable living, and understandably she was concerned about my future. Because of that decision, many of the comforts I was used to were stripped away. I had a car that she had co-signed for, but I couldn’t afford the payments, so I wasn’t able to drive it. For a season, I even had to move in with a relative.
At the time, it felt like I was losing everything familiar, but looking back, that season strengthened me. It forced me to rely on my faith in a way I never had before. Instead of turning back, I committed fully to the vision God had given me and pursued it with everything I had. Eventually, I overcame those challenges, and what I lost during that season was restored in ways I never could have imagined.
Another valley came years later when I became pregnant with my son. The pregnancy itself was a blessing, and for the first five months everything seemed to be going well. I was working, traveling, and receiving incredible support from my salon family and the company I was working with at the time. Then, during what was supposed to be a routine doctor’s appointment, my life changed overnight. I was admitted to the hospital, scheduled for surgery, and placed on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy.
That season was one of the most emotionally challenging times of my life. I battled depression and uncertainty while trying to prepare for motherhood. But even when my emotions were all over the place, I never stopped praying. I continued to seek God for direction and strength. After my son was born, new opportunities began to emerge. One of those was an idea God gave me for a traveling talk-show-style event called *The Mane Conversation*, which was birthed during that season and will soon be making its return.
Those experiences taught me that valleys are necessary. They develop our character, deepen our faith, and prepare us for what’s next. The mountaintop moments are beautiful, but it’s often in the transitions and challenges that we discover who we really are. I’ve learned that every difficult season has a purpose—it helps us release what no longer serves us and prepares us for the next level of growth. Looking back, I wouldn’t change any of it because every challenge helped shape the woman, mother, business owner, and educator I am today.”
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
“My business is built on the belief that beauty is more than what we see in the mirror—it’s a foundation for confidence, identity, and personal transformation. As a Master Cosmetology Educator, salon owner, mentor, and entrepreneur, I specialize in healthy hair care, professional hairstyling, education, and helping beauty professionals build sustainable careers and businesses.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working behind the chair, on international stages, at trade shows across the country and abroad, and as a platform artist for leading beauty brands. While I’m known for creating beautiful hair, I believe what truly sets me apart is my ability to educate, inspire, and empower people. Whether I’m working with a salon client, speaking on a stage, hosting my podcast *BigEyedGirl*, or mentoring beauty professionals, my goal is always the same—to help people see what’s possible for their lives and careers.
What makes my brand different is that it was built on purpose before profit. Every major decision I’ve made has been rooted in faith, vision, and service. I don’t just teach techniques; I teach mindset, confidence, business development, and the importance of building a strong foundation that can sustain long-term success. My experiences as a salon owner, educator, single mother, and entrepreneur allow me to connect with people in a very real and authentic way because I’ve lived many of the challenges they are navigating themselves.
The accomplishment I’m most proud of isn’t a feature, an award, or a stage I’ve stood on—it’s the impact. It’s seeing clients leave more confident than when they arrived, watching beauty professionals grow into successful business owners, and knowing that the work I’ve done has helped others believe in themselves. Legacy and transformation mean more to me than recognition.
Today, my brand continues to evolve. Through my salon, my podcast *BigEyedGirl*, and my upcoming mentorship platform, *The Foundation Collective*, I’m creating spaces where beauty professionals and entrepreneurs can gain the tools, support, and community they need to thrive. I want people to know that my brand is about more than hair—it’s about helping people build a life, career, and legacy on a strong foundation. When you have the right foundation, everything else becomes possible.”
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
“Something that surprises a lot of people is that doing hair was never my first love. Most people know me through my work in the beauty industry and assume hairstyling was always the dream, but it wasn’t. I’ve always been a creative person, and before cosmetology, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where my gifts and purpose aligned. It wasn’t until I prayed and asked God what gift He wanted me to use to glorify Him, bring me joy, and create a living that cosmetology was revealed to me. What started as an act of faith eventually became a career, a business, and a platform that has impacted countless lives—including my own.
Another thing people are often surprised to learn is that I’m actually an introvert. Because I’ve spoken on stages, worked trade shows internationally, hosted events, and now have a podcast, people assume I’m naturally outgoing all the time. The truth is, I recharge in quiet spaces. I enjoy reflection, journaling, prayer, and spending time alone to reset and hear God’s direction for my life and business.
I think being an introvert has actually become one of my strengths. It has made me a better listener, a more thoughtful leader, and someone who values meaningful conversations and authentic connections. Whether I’m behind the chair, mentoring beauty professionals, or interviewing guests on *BigEyedGirl*, I genuinely enjoy helping people share their stories and discover their own purpose.”
