Today we’d like to introduce you to Trenz Oner.
Trenz, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Started making music at just 9 years old, I was always in love with writing, began to write poetry and before I knew it all of my poems had rhyming schemes to it, filled with pain and trauma that I suffered and experienced at such young age. By the age of 12 I was recording on actual cassette tapes out of my moms basement, by 14 I was fully in love with the craft and I had a vision for hip hop music given my lyrical abilities, I was ahead of my time. At the age of 16 I invested into studio equipment and began to do this full time, by my early 20’s I was renting out bars and different spots to be able to showcase my talent and allow others to do the same, along side some of my closest friends who the world knew as Team NPS, opening up for artist such as black thought, styles P, wu tang, the late pnb rock, and more. It was not a journey I did alone there was much support and assistance from those who believed in the movement and my environment and upbringing just made it easier for me to make music that the listeners can relate to. I was born and raised in one of the grimiest, drug infested, crime infested and darkest parts of philadelphia known as K&A, Kensington & Allegheny. I strive to tell a story that usually always goes unheard due to where we’re from. Poverty stricken neighborhoods, minorities forced to survive in a never ending cycle built by the system, until it’s heard. I don’t only represent the Puerto Rican and African culture, I represent the broken, and everyone with a dream and ambition and enough hustle and drive to achieve it. I’ve done many underground albums like Kind Word and a Gun, Spoken terminology, Black Sheep, Lesser Evil, TRENZformation, and currently working on more albums to be released in the near future. My production is called Gritty Soundz and I’m backed by Innovator Kingdom Sounds. I write and record all of my content by myself. I’m a full time father, and all of my free time goes to music. It frees my soul. And at the age of 35, I still have something to say. I’ve been consistent and relentless in this hip hop game. Actually living the things I rap about which is why it hits different. It’s not made up it’s not fiction. It’s real life. It’s my life. And I put everything behind what I do. My all. You can find my music on Apple Music. Spotify. Tidal. You can stream some classics on SoundCloud and YouTube, You can find videos on YouTube. Performance / live videos, cypher videos, or just actual music videos. I have a fan club email list that can request my latest singles and receive all of my updates via email. All of my social media handles are @TRENZoner
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were many struggles along the way, staying motivated. Finding the balance between being a full time father and provider while still finding availability to make and create music or content. The non believers were always fuel to my craft. The haters were always my biggest motivators but the struggles were all based off of real life concerns like survival and taking care of my family while my music was not being heard anywhere other than the hood. Fall outs with the closest friends and people who I invested time and work with. The main struggle was trying to stay real in a game full of fake artist who’s only interest is commercializing music. But there’s a crowd for people / artist like me. I made it a mission to try to write on daily basis even if I wasn’t going to be recording daily, The pen was and is always in motion.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have the ability to do multiple flow switches while making music. I’m a one take champion but I’m also a perfectionist. I write on the spot, and have the ability to freestyle to any beat/ instrumental. Even in a paella you can hear my cadence. I have the skills to not only flow switch during my delivery but to transition from Spanish to English smoothly in my music. It comes naturally.
