Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnatha Camp.

Hi Johnatha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the beauty industry began in May 2010 when I met celebrity makeup artist Joy Randall, the key makeup artist for R&B singer Fantasia’s reality television show on VH1. Joy had been hired to do the makeup for one of my best friend’s wedding, and while she was applying my makeup, I shared with her that I wanted to learn more about the beauty industry.

She handed me her business card, invited me to her studio the following week, and hired me that very day. About six weeks later, she invited me to assist her on Fantasia’s reality show. That opportunity became the launching pad for my career, and the rest is history.

Over the past 16 years, I’ve built my career organically through hard work, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. I’ve had the honor of working with celebrities, executives, entrepreneurs, television personalities, brides, and clients from all walks of life. My work has been featured in national publications and media outlets, but what I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with the people I serve.

That experience taught me that preparation, humility, and the courage to ask questions can open doors you never imagined. One conversation truly changed the trajectory of my life.

Today, I’m continuing to expand my brand through celebrity makeup artistry, education, and mentorship while growing my presence in Atlanta. Looking ahead, my vision is to establish an accredited beauty institute that will prepare the next generation of beauty professionals—not only in artistry, but also in business, leadership, and entrepreneurship. I believe true success is measured not only by what you achieve, but by what you inspire and build for others.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
While every entrepreneurial journey comes with challenges, I can honestly say mine has been an incredible blessing. Overall, my path has been remarkably smooth, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities that have come my way.

Of course, there have been learning experiences along the way. Like many makeup artists, I’ve spent time and money testing different products to find the ones that consistently deliver the quality and results my clients expect. I’ve also experienced slower seasons, which taught me the importance of staying prepared, continuing to market myself, and trusting the process.

Even during those moments, I never viewed them as setbacks. Instead, I saw them as opportunities to grow, refine my craft, and strengthen my business. Looking back, I’ve felt that doors have continued to open since day one, and I don’t take that for granted. Every opportunity has motivated me to work harder, remain humble, and continue operating with excellence.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a celebrity makeup artist with more than 16 years of experience, specializing in beauty for television, film, editorial, corporate executives, celebrities, special events, and luxury bridal services. While I’m known for creating polished, camera-ready looks, my true passion is helping people feel confident, empowered, and like the best version of themselves.

While I’m incredibly grateful that my work has been featured in national publications and media outlets, what I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve earned. Many of my clients have returned to me year after year and have referred their family, friends, and colleagues. To me, that’s one of the greatest compliments I could ever receive because it reflects the relationships I’ve built and the confidence people have in my work.

I believe what truly sets me apart is the experience I provide. Makeup is only one part of what I do. I create an environment where my clients feel seen, valued, and confident. I strive to bring a sense of calm, positivity, and excellence to every appointment because I understand that how you make people feel is just as important as how you make them look.

I’ve built my reputation on consistency, professionalism, and treating every client with the same level of care and excellence—whether they’re a celebrity preparing for a national appearance or someone celebrating one of the biggest moments of their life. Every client deserves to feel like they’re my priority.

As my career continues to evolve, I’m also passionate about education and mentorship. Through my masterclasses and my vision of one day establishing an accredited beauty institute, my goal is to equip the next generation of beauty professionals with not only exceptional artistry, but also the business knowledge, professionalism, and leadership skills needed to build lasting careers.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Atlanta is its energy and entrepreneurial spirit. It’s a city that celebrates creativity, culture, and innovation, and you can feel that the moment you arrive. There are so many talented people, and I appreciate being in an environment where collaboration and ambition are encouraged. As I continue expanding my business into Atlanta, I’m excited to build meaningful relationships and contribute to such a vibrant creative community.

Charlotte will always have my heart because it’s home, but I’m excited to plant roots in Atlanta and continue growing both personally and professionally. I see Atlanta as an incredible opportunity to serve new clients, build lasting connections, and be part of a city that inspires so many creatives and entrepreneurs.

If I had to choose something I like least, it would probably be the traffic! I think most Atlantans would agree. Fortunately, I’ve learned that a little extra planning goes a long way. Overall, the opportunities, diversity, and sense of possibility in Atlanta far outweigh any challenges, and I’m grateful to be part of its growing creative community.
