Conversations with Von The DJ

Today we’d like to introduce you to Von The DJ.

Hi Von, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Dayton, OH. I got my start in college, after basketball I didn’t know what was next. An injury presented itself and then an opportunity presented itself. I got to where I am today just by staying consistent and not taking no for an answer. I never believed in accepting no’s, always just pivoting my direction and finding another way in.

That mindset taught me how to turn setbacks into redirections, and I’ve carried that with me in every space I’ve stepped into since.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges is being in a field where you are labeled as competition the moment you step in. It’s no different than sports. Becoming a traveling DJ means you’re constantly entering unfamiliar or even hostile environments.

There have been times I’ve walked into spaces where I wasn’t welcomed, where established DJs had the advantage of familiarity and control. In some cases, I’ve even experienced situations where equipment or setups were intentionally not handled properly, creating obstacles meant to disrupt my performance.

But even in those moments, I learned how to adapt quickly, stay composed, and still deliver. It strengthened my ability to read a room, protect my craft, and never allow external pressure to dictate the quality of my work.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a DJ who specializes in curating an experience for event and party goers. I take pride in ensuring everyone has a time to remember, no matter their age, background, or life experiences.

For me, it’s never just about playing music, it’s about reading the room, setting the tone, and creating moments that people feel long after the event is over. I am known for being highly versatile, with the ability to seamlessly adapt my sound and energy based on the crowd dynamics, ensuring the experience always feels intentional and aligned with the moment.

At the core of my work is impact. I don’t just show up to DJ, I show up to shift the atmosphere. I am most proud of my longevity. This isn’t always a field where people stick with it. It can often feel like a trend or a passing phase to become a DJ, but I’ve remained committed to the craft and continued to grow within it over time. What sets me apart is my ability to consistently execute and bring ideas to life, turning every opportunity into a meaningful and memorable moment.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I feel that honesty is most important to my success because it leaves both myself and the client with a clear understanding. There is no grey area, no one is left wondering or second-guessing what could have been done differently because everyone is on the same exact page from the start.

I also think consistency is important to success because it builds trust over time. How can you manage adversity or success without consistency? It’s consistency that keeps you grounded when things are difficult and keeps you disciplined when things are going well. It ensures that no matter the event, the standard remains high and the execution is dependable. People know what to expect from me, and I make it a priority to deliver that level of quality every single time.
