Check Out Kanard Thomas’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kanard Thomas.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born in Rochester, New York, and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Thomas discovered his love for music in the church. Influenced by legendary vocalists such as Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and Usher, he developed a sound rooted in classic soul while embracing the modern textures of contemporary R&B. What began as a young singer performing in church would eventually evolve into a career that has taken him from local stages in Georgia to national television, international cruise ships, and collaborations with some of the music industry’s most respected names.
Thomas’ rise began in Columbus, Georgia, where he quickly earned a reputation as one of the region’s standout vocal talents. He performed at prestigious events, including the Miss Georgia Pageant, and captured the attention of audiences through numerous vocal competitions. His undeniable talent and commanding stage presence soon opened doors far beyond his hometown.
National audiences were first introduced to Thomas during Season 16 of NBC’s hit competition series The Voice. After earning the title of “Comeback Stage” winner, he fought his way into the Top 24, proving that determination and talent can create opportunities when others might count you out. Years later, Thomas returned to The Voice for Season 28, where his soulful rendition of “Whip Appeal” earned him a chair turn from music icon Snoop Dogg and a place on Team Snoop. The moment served as both a career milestone and a testament to the growth he had achieved as an artist since his first appearance on the show.
While television introduced Thomas to a broader audience, his professional résumé speaks for itself. Throughout his career, he has shared stages and recording studios with some of music’s most celebrated artists. He has performed background vocals for Grammy Award-winning singer Monica Denise and acclaimed singer-songwriter Brittany Howard. His voice can also be heard on Rob Moose’s recording of “I Bend But Never Break,” featuring Brittany Howard, adding another notable credit to an already impressive body of work.
Beyond television and studio sessions, Thomas has established himself as an accomplished live entertainer. As a guest entertainer aboard major cruise lines, he performs for audiences around the globe, bringing the timeless spirit of soul music to international stages. Whether delivering heartfelt ballads or energetic crowd favorites, his performances consistently leave lasting impressions on audiences from every corner of the world.
His career has also included serving as frontman for the legendary B.B. King Live All-Star Band and opening for powerhouse vocalist Jade Novah. These experiences have helped shape Thomas into the versatile performer he is today—an artist equally comfortable commanding a concert stage, captivating a television audience, or connecting with listeners through intimate storytelling.
Now entering an exciting new chapter, Thomas is focused on expanding his catalog of original music. With singles currently available across all major streaming platforms, he continues to build a loyal fan base drawn to his authentic artistry and unmistakable vocal tone. At the same time, he is hard at work on his debut EP, a highly anticipated project that promises to showcase his evolution as a songwriter, vocalist, and creative force.
For Kanard Thomas, music has never been solely about recognition. It has been about connection, resilience, and staying true to the sound that first inspired him as a child singing in church. From national television to international stages, his journey serves as a reminder that talent may open the door, but persistence is what keeps it open.
As his story continues to unfold, one thing remains certain: Kanard Thomas is not just finding his place in music—he is creating a legacy of his own.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is being away from my family for extended periods while performing around the world as a guest entertainer. Missing holidays, birthdays, and everyday moments with loved ones can be difficult, especially as a father. However, every sacrifice has a purpose. My son is my greatest motivation, and knowing that I’m building a legacy for him and creating opportunities for our future makes every mile traveled and every day away worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m proud of my trajectory in music and understanding the industry. I’m proud of being an example to my son and proud of my community and people. Being an example to young fathers.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk for me are not knowing what the outcome will be of the decisions I make. But chasing my dreams there are no risk. I count risk as blessings
