Conversations with Iyan Goodson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Iyan Goodson.

Hi Iyan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in between Marietta and Atlanta Ga. It was mostly just me and my mom, especially after I left my dads when I was very young. We moved around a lot and I had a lot of instability in my early life. Always being the new kid in school, music was the one thing that was stable in my life and was a getaway for me. I’ve always had a passion for music and art, especially song writing and singing. I was constantly listening to music of all genres, and grew to love music in all forms. When I was teenager, me and some friends made a rap group together. That was my first taste of myself making music. Instead of being serious about our music, we were busy being outside in the streets and making bad choices. However, this experience shaped me and a lot of my storytelling for my music is based on this time in my life. I got serious about my music in my late teens when I became solo. I have been consistent with my hard work since, which lead to my breakout song Claim U Myne in December 2025.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We struggled financially a lot growing up; moving around constantly with just my mom, and my two younger siblings. I struggled with drugs in my early twenties to the point it slowed my paste down with music. I also had a lot of family turmoil that led to some pretty bad fights. I’ve lost several close friends and family in death. All of these factors led me to make some poor choices but also made me stronger as a person .

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create melodic/rage music that will have you either vibing or tearing the roof down. I really just like having fun with my music, and want everyone to be able to escape reality or their personal problems when they listen. Everything I try to do is unique to me and I love creating music that has a different taste to it. I am most proud of not giving up when most people would have if they were in my shoes.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going to my Aunties and hanging with my cousins during summer.
