Alysha Turner of Jonesboro on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Alysha Turner and have shared our conversation below.

Alysha, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
What I’m most proud of building, even though most people don’t see it, is the creative world I’ve been shaping piece by piece. I’m a writer and author, and I’ve poured myself into every part of my books; from writing and self-publishing to editing and even illustrating my own covers. I also started a Mental Health Self-Help line for people who are struggling but prefer to cope on their own terms, because I know how important it is to have safe, supportive resources. On top of that, I’m working on perfecting my stationery line, which lets me combine my love for creativity with encouraging others in their everyday lives. All of this may not always be visible from the outside, but it’s the work I’m most proud of because it’s real, personal, and built from the heart.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alysha Turner, and I’m the creator behind Poetically Insync – Books, Crafts, and Stationery. I grew up in the semi-small town of Brunswick, GA, and I’ve always had a heart for helping people. That passion led me to recently graduate with my B.A. in Psychology. This journey that took longer than expected, but was one that taught me so much about resilience and the importance of mental health, especially as I faced my own struggles along the way.

Writing has always been my safe space, especially poetry. I began with books and crafts, but over time I realized I wanted to grow it into something bigger. I wanted an inspiring book and stationery brand where creativity and encouragement meet, and that is exactly what was created. While I still enjoy crafting, my main focus now is on writing. I self-publish all of my books, edit them myself, and even illustrate my own covers. Right now, I’m working on several projects: a teen mystery fantasy book, a children’s holiday story, and another book filled with random thoughts and ideas that reflect everyday life.

What makes Poetically Insync unique is that everything I create is rooted in personal experience. My Mental Health Self-Help line, for example, was born from my own perspective on mental health and what I’ve learned through both study and lived experience. Self-coping can play a powerful role in healing. For me, there’s no better way to connect with others than through authenticity, and my brand is a reflection of that.
Poetically Insync brings creativity and resilience with the courage to transform personal experiences into meaningful stories that uplift and inspire others.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world shaped me, I felt lost. I was unhappy in college and found it really hard to focus. I do not believe the world told me who I had to be. Over time I realized that life is too precious to spend on paths that don’t feel right. Through my experiences, I learned who I didn’t want to be and what I didn’t want my future to look like. Eventually, I made changes that helped me grow into the woman I am today. I am now more intentional, more grounded, and true to myself.

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain a few years after struggling silently with mental health challenges. In 2016, I reached a breaking point, feeling lost as I tried to navigate adult life and college. After my breaking point, I shared my struggles with family and friends, but not everyone understood. Because of this I chose to stay silent.

Over time, through self-work, learning to self-cope, and coming off my medication because I no longer needed it; I realized my feelings matter and that it is okay if others don’t fully understand. When I embraced my truth and stopped worrying about what others thought; I began to transform my pain into power. This journey ultimately inspired me to create “Mentally I Care,” the foundation of my Mental Health Self-Help collection, so I could use my experiences to help and empower others.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am deeply committed to bringing more awareness to mental health, not just for women, but for men as well. I try my best to create both feminine and masculine versions of my Self-Help books so men don’t feel uncomfortable or decide against purchasing. I make sure everything included can apply to both men and women, providing practical tools and guidance that anyone can use.
This is a project I am passionate about and will continue to work on, no matter how long it takes. I think it is mostly important for men to understand that their mental health matters also. I am confident that I will create a safe-place for men with my Collection of Self-Help books and journals. Maybe this will convince them to seek therapy if needed in their life. Ultimately, they will know someone cares about the emotions and stress they are carrying.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do, and I am still learning, growing, and working every day to do it better. My journey is ongoing, but I feel aligned with my purpose and passionate about the work I am creating.
