An Inspired Chat with Adreon Patterson of Sandy Springs

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Adreon Patterson. Check out our conversation below.

Adreon, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Imposter syndrome! As creatives, we feel ike we’re not enough and start doubting our talent, especially when we feel underappreciated or undervalued.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Adreon Patterson, owner and operator of Patterson Creative, a creative branding agency specializing in writing and design. I work with small- and medium-sized businesses and brands to either get started, rebrand, or refresh their overall appeal and purpose to expand their reach and audience. I acted as a one-man marketing and PR office for those seeking to grow but lack their own creative team.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My parents! They always encouraged me to pursue my career in the arts. They were constantly supplying me with tools and other items, allowing me to explore my artistic endeavors. I also have to shout out to my second-grade teacher for being the first non-family person to appreciate my creative talents.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Live in the moment (good, bad, or indifferent), and trust the process. As cliché as they may be, those phrases describe all the self-doubt and impatience I experienced trying to make my art dreams come true. It will work out, even if the trajectory may not be the way you envisioned it.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
The visibility of Black content and creators throughout all my work. As we continue to face pushback and discrimination for being ourselves, it’s more important than ever to acknowledge and honor our contributions and legacy globally.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What false labels are you still carrying?
I’m not a content creator or creative. It is something I struggle with to this day. Like many creatives, I suffer from the dreaded imposter syndrome. Compared to my early career, I don’t give in as much now. In recent years, I have come into myself as a multifaceted artist. I’m learning to enjoy those labels without cringing or feeling out of place.
