An Inspired Chat with Alexa Preyer of West Midtown

We recently had the chance to connect with Alexa Preyer and have shared our conversation below.

Alexa, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Lately, I feel I’m being called to grow and delegate in ways that once felt uncomfortable. Hosting events has pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but it’s also given me the chance to provide access to a community that often overlooks the need to rest, reset, and recover—and to see how physical therapy can be a part of that. To make this possible, I’ve had to trust others, grow my team, and delegate more than I ever have before. It’s been a stretch, but also a reminder that stepping back can actually create more space for impact.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Alexa Preyer, a doctor of physical therapy and founder of The Movement Experience. My journey into wellness began with my own love for movement and sport, and an injury I didn’t receive proper rehab and recovery for. Over time, I realized how often people overlook the importance of rest and recovery, which inspired me to create The Movement Experience. We bridge a gap in the traditional healthcare system by combining physical therapy, functional training, and a supportive community to help people move better and feel more connected to their bodies. What makes our approach unique is that it’s not just about exercises or treatments; it’s about creating experiences that empower people to prioritize wellness in ways that fit their lives. We don’t just stop at injury care—we focus on building long-term strength, resilience, and balance.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My husband. He’s the reason The Movement Experience exists. From the very beginning, he saw the way I cared for my patients, differently than anyone he had seen before. He recognized my potential long before I did and encouraged me to step into a place of discomfort: entrepreneurship. He knew I could create something meaningful for the patients I serve, and without his belief and support, The Movement Experience might not exist today.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear that has held me back most in my life is the fear of failure. I’ve always set high standards for myself, and for a long time, that made me hesitant to take risks or step into the unknown. Over time, I’ve realized that growth—and meaningful impact comes from leaning into discomfort and embracing challenges.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I admire my dad for his character. While he is strong and powerful, what I admire most is his integrity, grit, and genuine care for others. Being in an interracial marriage during a time when white fragility is so prominent, I’ve seen him actively show allyship—continually asking my husband about his experiences, listening, and looking for ways to support him. He’s committed to learning, challenging his own biases, and standing up for those who face discrimination. I trust him wholeheartedly to never judge or put anyone down, and his example has shaped how I approach supporting others in my own life and work.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I think I will regret not fully enjoying the little things with my family and taking better care of myself. Entrepreneurship has taught me so much and afforded me greater opportunities of impact. But, I often put everyone else first—my husband, kids, team, and patients—sometimes at the cost of my own mental and physical health.
