An Inspired Chat with Mrs LaShonda Hill

Mrs LaShonda Hill shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi LaShonda, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
“The first 90 minutes of my day are my most valuable. I pray, review my goals, and journal or jot down creative ideas that came to me overnight. I often use that time to prepare content, outline upcoming classes, or brainstorm for my brands. I’ve learned that those early hours are when my creativity flows most, so I protect them carefully.”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?

“My name is LaShonda Hill, and I’m an international beauty educator, author, and entrepreneur. I am the founder of Chapeaux by LaShonda Hill, a luxury wig design brand and education platform where I teach stylists around the world how to master advanced techniques and build successful businesses. What makes my brand unique is that it’s not just about hair—it’s about transformation. Every wig I create and every class I teach is rooted in helping people walk in confidence and purpose. My story is one of blooming where I was planted: from humble beginnings, to global stages, to mentoring the next generation of stylists. Alongside my beauty career, I’m also an author, with books that inspire readers to grow, heal, and embrace the gifts God placed inside of them. Right now, I’m working on expanding my educational retreats and book projects, and I’m passionate about leaving a legacy of faith, excellence, and empowerment.”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
“Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a little girl with big dreams, a lot of creativity, and a heart for people. I was always that child who wanted to make others feel beautiful, cared for, and seen—whether it was styling dolls’ hair, encouraging friends, or imagining myself on stages I hadn’t even touched yet. At my core, I’ve always been someone who leads with love, faith, and vision. The world tried to put labels and limitations on me, but deep down I never lost that God-given spark to create, inspire, and serve.”

When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
“I stopped hiding my pain when I realized that what I had gone through wasn’t meant to silence me, but to strengthen me. Losing my parents just months apart, and walking through years of grief, could have broken me—but instead, I chose to let God use that season to build something greater in me. My pain became the soil for my purpose. When I started sharing my story through my platform, my teaching, and eventually my writing, I saw that it gave others permission to heal too. That’s when I knew my pain wasn’t wasted—it had been transformed into power.”

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?

“For me, the difference between a fad and a foundational shift is impact and longevity. A fad is loud, flashy, and temporary—it gets attention for a moment but doesn’t create real change. A foundational shift, on the other hand, transforms how people think, live, or create. In the beauty industry, I’ve seen plenty of quick trends come and go, but the practices that last are the ones that empower people, elevate confidence, and build sustainable businesses. In life and in business, I ask myself: Will this just make noise today, or will it still bear fruit years from now? That’s how I know it’s more than a fad—it’s a shift worth investing in.”

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
“When I’m gone, I hope people say that I lived a life of purpose, faith, and impact. That I didn’t just style hair, teach classes, create wigs or write books—I created opportunities, opened doors, and planted seeds that kept growing long after me. I want the story to be that I loved deeply, gave generously, and empowered others to bloom where they were planted. More than anything, I hope they remember that I pointed people back to God, and that my life was proof that He can turn pain into purpose and dreams into reality.”
