Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Colston Avella Hiles.
Aaron Colston, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Since a little boy, I’ve lived in my mum’s dancing school in Spain (Escuela de Danza Hazel Hiles). Always influenced by an artistic world, I’ve been trained in classical (Advanced RAD), modern, jazz and tap (Advanced 2, ISTD), Hip Hop and variations. Also loved singing, music production, choreographing and filmmaking.
I’ve been fortunate to be in a lot of TV program competitions dancing with y sister, and at the age of 15, I got into a singing competition which led to working for Disney Channel Spain.
From then on, I’ve traveled all the country and the UK performing in all type of events (from small benefit shows to big 8000 people audiences and TV broadcasts).
A part of this (plot twist), I’m an engineer! I’ve just finished a degree in Multimedia Engineering at Universidad de Alicante, Spain, and right now I’m building my own business which will combine my technical brain with the artistic side of my life. For that, social media is very important (Instagram: @aaron_colston) and networking with very talented people with a broad spectrum of skills.
I’ve had an exciting life, but still 23 years old, so there is a lot more to come (with work!). This year is the start of something new.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
At the moment, with all the different skills I am finding myself and exploring new possibilities. I’m the director of a tribute act “Justin Bieber Tribute”, and in this project, I’ve prepared every part of it: from the music edit and choreographies to all the VFX used in a background display so the choreographies interact with the screens and dance together.
Mostly, the computer graphics are made with Adobe After Effect but can use other different programs and own scripts to personalize the esthetics of the video clip.
The feedback from the audience is incredible and that is the main reason I love this job: feeling good with a great project and seeing people enjoy watching things that are new for them or presented differently so it catches their attention and evokes an emotion.
Being live shows, YouTube videos, influencer photography and media management… anything I do it is with passion and a love of the arts combined with the actuality of great technology.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Follow your passions, put a tone of work into it and don’t let anybody tell you “You can’t”.
Being successful is a mindset, everybody has different goals in life and when you believe in your potential, you can. But, remember to surround yourself with positive and uplifting people, because you will need moral help when you feel down (and it happens eventually).
One more tip, so it is more difficult to get to that stage of negativity: Set your goal as high as you want, but then divide the path into easier, quicker and more achievable goals so you feel the progress in the process, one step at a time.
Something I still struggle sometimes is wanting to do more, so the lesson I wished I’ve learned earlier would be that there is no rush. I had my first real job at 14, I moved and traveled on train and planes on my own (my parents had to work and couldn’t afford to be with me in every event I had) while studying throughout my youth, and I hoped to be super successful before getting out of high school. I can say I sort of achieved that, but a creative mind always has more ideas and more goals to pursue. Appreciate all the different things you have done, don’t take them for granted.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
The main platform that I like to be in contact with everybody is through Instagram: @aaron_colston ( https://www.instagram.com/aaron_colston/ ).
Just started a new YouTube Channel: Aaron Colston Avella Hiles ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBkgsDjBD_n0rVDYcflRwwg?sub_confirmation=1 )
And soon I’ll have a restructured website: www.aaroncolston.com. People can support my work sharing it with friends and family that they think they would enjoy it. Also, if any company is interested in my services (online or offline, giving dance masterclasses or speeches, singing and performing, VFX and direction of productions), it would be awesome to keep in touch.
