Today we’d like to introduce you to Avey Carter.
Avey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started making music when I was 15. I started off as a producer because that’s what my dad is and of course I want to be just like him, but I honestly didn’t have the same love for it like he does. As time went on, I started to connect with more rappers and thought that it seemed like something I could do and be better at so I started to write raps over popular beats until I eventually got enough confidence to write a song of my own. I would eventually link up with very talented producers like JaeEss, C.ZAR, and Premethakid and rappers like Manistated, Olu, Lord Nova, the list goes on and they have all helped me mold my sound into what it is now.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make music as a way to fully express myself as a person. I share my story and things I’ve been through and I try to do it in a way where anyone can listen to it and enjoy, even if they can’t relate to the story or what I’m saying they’ll still love how it sounds. I rap because I love the art of rap more than any other art form, I love creating and music is just what I’m best at. I also make music depending on how I feel, so one day I might make 3 or 4 sad songs, another day I’ll make songs that’ll get a crowd jumping, it really all depends on what my mood is as it should with anything you do creatively. Music is and will always be an outlet for me and I am myself 100% on every song because I want to have music that people can relate to like how I can relate to my favorite artists, I want everyone to feel about me how I feel about my favorites. With this hopefully, I’ll be able to change not only my life but the lives of my family and friends as well.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
I feel that success is whatever you make it out to be. To some, they haven’t succeeded until they reach a million dollars and to others, they haven’t succeeded until they win a grammy/any award. For me, I don’t think I’ll be able to say I’m successful until I buy my parents a house and everyone around me is living comfortable. I don’t really care for the other accolades or being in anyone’s top 5, the end goal is to be happy, to live life carefree and do everything my friends and I have been dreaming of since high school and I honestly feel like music will take me there.
