Today we’d like to introduce you to Cody Matlock.
Cody, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My dad gave me a guitar when I was 11. I started practicing a lot and joined a band in my hometown of Calhoun as soon as I could. Once I got to where I could hold my own, my dad started taking me to Atlanta to play with a lot of different bands that he knew or liked. I started playing music professionally in a local cover band when I was 14. It seems like just yesterday that we started booking gigs as “The Cody Matlock Band” but we just booked out our summer so I’m excited to see where the journey takes us in the next few months.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make music for the purpose of bringing people together and making people happy. Music makes me happy, so I wanna share it with everyone. I feel like my music appeals to a broad range of people and uplifts their spirits. I’m just trying to make people forget about all the things that don’t really matter and remind them that we are all just humans so we might as well dance and enjoy life together.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Just go out and show up. Don’t sit in your house for too long. You have to go out and look for opportunities and follow up with people you meet. If you’re not appearing, you’re disappearing.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I put out my debut EP, “Live at Eddie’s Attic,” a few months ago. You can find it on iTunes or stream it wherever you get your music. You can also see my upcoming shows on my website Codymatlock.com.
