Art & Life with Crystal Artis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Artis.

Crystal, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was green lighted by my awesome husband, to walk away from my 9-5 job that I really hated. I really had no clue on what or how I was going to start a business. My husband words were, “Now you have all the time you need, let’s get to work”. Needless to say I was excited, anxious, and scared traveling down uncharted territory. I dug in, made plenty of mistakes, wanted to quite every other month lol but I hung in there with the encouragement of my family and friends. The turning point for me is when I invested in a newborn conference and those 3 days changed everything for me! I figured out what my passion was for (weddings, maternity/newborn) and began to study even more, found my style I was comfortable with and have been working hard ever since.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a wedding, maternity & newborn photographer. These three things have a major factor in common. Details. It’s always about the smallest details that makes the biggest impact. To capture the silent moments of love between the couple, the sweetest excitement of a woman on her journey to motherhood, and the flawless innocence of a newborns features are what pull at my heart strings. I also am a knitter and crocheter. I make bonnets, rompers, pants, etc. I love that I am able to mix these two worlds together to create beautiful, customized artworks for my clients.

I would like for people when they see my work or more so my clients, to reflect on that fleeting moment that has been archived. To remember the sights, sounds and smell of that moment and have a warm, loving feeling that comes over them.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
We all struggle from time to time and I am no exception! I walked away from my job but only with the extensive support of my husband. He knew it would not be easy but we talked about it and were comfortable with the big transition. I’ve had to come to terms with myself that everything I saw everyone else had, I thought I had to get it as well and that simply isn’t the case. Look around at what you do have and make that work and use it to the wheels fall off, lol. Value yourself, time and talent and know your worth!
