Art & Life with Jackie Venson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Venson.

Jackie, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am the youngest of nine siblings I started playing the piano at age eight. My mother signed me up for piano lessons and I stuck with it. I grew up watching my father and brother lead a band and was raised knowing that a career in music was possible. I was a classical pianist for 13 years until age 21 where I decided to switch to the electric guitar. I switched because my time at college had somehow divided me from the piano as if my passion for it had diminished severely but my passion for music still remained. I took this as a sign that I needed to continue playing music but with a different instrument.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I play the guitar, I sing, and I write my own songs as well as lead my own band. My music is a crossroads of rock, r&b, blues, soul, and reggae. I have several different instrumentations that I perform and record with so my sound is different from song to song. For some folks, this is a lot to digest because you never know what a new track of mine will hold, but for some folks this is exciting. No matter what genre I decide to be in, the thread tying it all together is my voice and my guitar solos.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
It’s a marathon, not a sprint and most importantly it’s a lifestyle. If one is not ready to live a life like an artist, one may not be ready or fit to be an artist.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
YouTube or Spotify @JackieVenson, as well as any other digital streaming platform one might use. I recommend catching some of my videos, they are enjoyable.
