Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Eason.
Kelly, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I always knew that I wanted to model, and when I saw the creative scene in Atlanta, I felt that this dream was an actual possibility. I moved to the city about three years ago, and I’ve only been modeling for a little more than six months now. I knew that this was what I always wanted to do, but it was really hard to put myself out there at first. I feel like I anxiously sat around for two years watching as people made names for themselves. However, recently, I’ve been getting more involved. The hardest parts for me were pushing myself to get out and meet people to start building a network. I’m very thankful for any photographer that saw something in me and gave me a platform to start expressing myself through modeling.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
When I was in high school, I was constantly all over Sarah Snyder’s Instagram page. I would try to recreate all her fits, and I think that’s where my love for sneakers stems from too. Watching her through the years, working her way up in the modeling industry has inspired me a lot. I’m also very passionate about fashion, streetwear especially. All throughout my life, I’ve practiced calligraphy, but when I got to Atlanta, I was inspired by all the different graffiti styles and started lettering- all inspired by cursive. I’m at the beginning stages now, but my dream is to make and model my own garments with my own fonts.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
My advice to other artists to put yourself out there and network. No one gets to where they are alone, and I feel like I learned that the hard way. Success to me to being proud of yourself and what you are doing. Being in any creative industry, it probably seems like more people are shutting doors on you than opening them; you can’t give up on yourself. When you see your worth others will see it too.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
All my work right now is on my Instagram. Anything to me is support- whether that be liking, commenting, sharing, reaching out about an opportunity, etc.
