Art & Life with Leepeck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leepeck.

Leepeck, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I look back to my early days, I see my father playing the cassettes and cd’s of Johnny Cash, Elvis, Chuck Berry and lots of other musicians of the fifties era.

When I was 12, I bought my first guitar ( with my own money ). I started to learn all the songs my dad’s records.

At this time, me and my friends used to listen to Dire Straits. I knew right away I will not become a guitarist, but I started to sing. Mostly the old rhythm and blues stuff like „That’s Alright Mama”, „Johhny B. Goode” etc.

While in the third grade of my Warsaw high school I started playing with my classmates in a rock band we called „Bohema”.

This group last for almost a decade released two records ( Polish Radio, EMI Music ), played lots of gigs in Poland and abroad.

We received one of the most prestigious music awards in Poland – Superjedynka – in „Best Rock Album of the Year” category for 2007.

Me and my friends also reached number one Polish MTV charts with two singles „Ginger” and „Hell Woman” from our debut release.

A couple of years ago I started my own career having a friend from Bohema – Piotrek Czajer, a guitarist and a music producer – by my side.

My name is Piotr Lipka so now I use Leepeck as my artistic nickname. Together with Piotrek and other musicians we created an album „Borderline” which was published last year.

You can check it out along with video clips and live shows on the net.

Hope you like it 🙂

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a Warsaw-based singer-songwriter. My album Borderline was analog recorded and released in April 2017.
Borderline’s songs are a nostalgic journey into the past. The album blends melancholic vocals with acoustic folk influences.

It is a combination of various moods and colors. The music’s theme invokes a longing for the past and lost relationships.

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
It is a very important and complex issue. I think it is hard to sell music in the internet era. It is very easy to publish but getting money from it is the other thing. Collecting royalties and selling your recordings is not very profitable nowadays. Unless you are a well-known musician, talent show star, etc.

Thanks to all the virtual platforms we may publish anything we want. And that is really great. But on the other hand, the flood of information via the internet is so huge it is very difficult to make your art significant to other people. That is why musicians often play for free ( or sometimes even pay for it ) to promote themselves. A lack of recognition has always been a problem for us, but today it is far more obvious I guess.
