Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Bradley.
Meredith, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I recently graduated from Georgia State University with a degree in Marketing and a Fine Arts minor. I was interested in pottery beginning in high school, and while in college I took an internship at MudFire Studio in Decatur. After graduation, I made the decision to continue pursuing my ceramic career and began a residency program at MudFire. I also work part-time in marketing.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make hand thrown functional pottery decorated with screen-printed drawings. I am drawn to florals and geometric patterns, taking inspiration from wallpaper and design motifs. As a cancer, I enjoy surrounding myself with objects reminiscent of the home which brings motivation to make pieces for others to enliven their personal spaces. My goal is to give someone else the same comfort when they are drinking out of one of my mugs or using one of my pieces.
Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
I think conditions for artists have improved over the years, due to the advent social media. It’s a lot easier to make connections with the help of platforms like Instagram, but with that being said it is a lot to juggle. It’s hard to constantly be making, working other jobs, while also being a marketing machine.
Atlanta has a lot of local shows and markets, which are a great avenue to help artists. However, there are no regular weekend selling opportunities like some other cities have. Additionally, many cities offer artist perks or incentives to keep arts in their cities – that’s something I would love to see in Atlanta.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have work at MudFire Studio & Gallery, as well as my online shop, and local shows and markets – look for me there!
