Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Rhodes.
Michelle, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
After 25 years in sales and marketing, I opened Michelle Rhodes LLC after a design I made in a metalsmithing class and took to an iconic Atlanta boutique sold out so quickly I could barely keep them in stock.
At a time when the fashion industry can trend toward cheap and disposable, I am scaling back my business model to create more of a connection with my customer, and design jewelry that focuses around several key areas: Handmade, quality, inspiration and identity,
I don’t want my customers to have to think about what jewelry they wear because every piece of jewelry should reflect you, and I want to honor that in my designs.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I make jewelry using found objects, some I design, some vintage, you name it! Diamonds, precious metals, semi-precious gemstones are all part of my designs, along with hand stampings using phrases that remind us to be present and mindful in our lives. And that a little sentimentality helps too.
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
You always have some constraints no matter what creative endeavor you pursue. I would recommend learning all you can about running a business and keeping a brand running. Find mentors. Ask questions of those smarter.

I currently sell to about 30 stores nationally.
