Today we’d like to introduce you to Peeko.
Peeko, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Riley, the vocalist, and Elena, the guitarist, started writing music together in the late part of 2017/early part of 2018 with no actual intention of becoming a full band. Anthony, the bassist, sort of weaseled his way into the situation and convinced us we needed to be a full band. (Anthony says he was inspired and needed to be a part of the project ((and also had a crush on Elena))). Dorian, our drummer, heard a snip of our songs and sent us a version with him playing drums over it. We loved it. BOOM. Peeko was birthed.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We write music that’s somewhere in the genre of 90’s girl pop meets “introspective garage rock” – someone told us this once at a show. We honestly don’t know what genre we are yet. It vacillates with each song.
We’re releasing an EP early 2019. As far as that album goes, we wrote mostly about discord in interpersonal relationships and coming of age.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success is really hard to define, and your standard of what “success” is probably changes every day. If we write a new song – that’s success. If we play another show – that’s success. If we somehow one day “make it” – that’s success. To all of us, the most fulfilling part is just playing together and hearing that some folks like it.
