Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Mead.
Robin, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I started creating when I was very young with my Mom..she would draw and fill a room with furniture and I would try to do the same. At about 8 I started doing pencil portraits for favorite actors and singers. Each one took me quite a while to get right as I really had no idea what I was doing. In middle and high school I loved art and was very good at it..taking the lessons and adding my own touch. After HS I really didn’t create too much until when I was about 32, married and had two girls. I watched HGTV and tried to create all of the crafts they would show. During my mid-30s, I went to school and got my masters in Social work, and I also got really interested in digital art or altering art digitally and spend a few years creating that way. At 45 I went back to school for art, and it was during that time that I experimented with all kinds of art supplies and techniques such as acrylic painting, portraits, still life, printmaking, drawing, 2d design, etc..and I’ve been hooked ever since. I started selling on eBay in 2006 and then Etsy, Facebook, and my own website. I create joyful, colorful depictions of flowers, the ocean, and birds. I also create abstract pieces and handmade journals, clay bowls, and crochet pieces.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create with only one thing in mind, and that is joy! I use happy colors and integrate them in a way that sparks a joyful feeling or happy thoughts. The comment I hear most is “Your art makes me so happy,” and for me, that is the best thing I can hear. I usually use stylized colors that I choose to represent common images in nature and life, such as flowers, landscapes, and birds. These are quite easy to add a joyful spin too as they are inherently filled with color and interest.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
Well in many ways it’s easier than before with social media and the internet. But this can also make it harder as the competition is huge and everyone is on the bandwagon. My best advice is to be yourself, and unique with what you do and practice practice practice. Just keep making art over and over..try new things and incorporate yourself into each one. Also, do what you love because if you don’t love it it will become a chore and that will show in your finished pieces.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?

Beautiful expressive art. Great article. I love Robins Art. Gave some bird art as gifts at Christmas. Friends loved too.
