Today we’d like to introduce you to Shoulin Easley.
Shoulin, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I fell in love with nails at eight years old when I went with my mother to the nail salon. I asked the tech what all he used and bought everything and began practicing on my friends and family. At 15 a family member discouraged me from continuing with doing nails because it wasn’t a real job to them and I wouldn’t make much money. I drifted between odd jobs and even went to college for nursing because I thought that would be best, but I dropped out, and I decided to sign up for nail school because that’s what I loved. In 2014 I graduated from Iverson Institute in Atlanta Ga. So here I am doing what I love to do.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I was self-taught at an early age, so I move with the time. I can look at anything that is trending and figure the design out myself. My specialty is full sets, but I do gel, sculptures, encapsulating, manicures, etc. my message for anyone that’s reading this is to follow what makes you happy. Don’t let anyone discourage you or make you feel bad about your career choices. Because I am so passionate about being a great nail technician, I am a perfection which means I take my time until my client gets exactly what they asked for. So you may get very simple to an extreme set with bling, spiral nails, ombré with lots of color and glitter lol.
In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
As an African American nail tech, we don’t get the support we deserve because others have been doing it for so long. Also, we don’t support each other in the nail community which needs to change.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
