I started cooking when I was about ten years old. Shepherd’s Stew from “The Betty Crocker Cookbook” was the first thing I ever made. A couple years later, I won a blue ribbon for my banana nut bread from 4-H. My first restaurant job was fast food (Pizza Hut, actually), and I worked in the industry for fourteen years before I went to culinary school at The Art Institute of Atlanta, where I graduated summa cum laude with a concentration in baking and pastry. I got my first actual chef position five months after I graduated in 2003, at The Flying Biscuit in Candler Park, handling the prep for both locations (there were only two at that time). Read more>>

Measuring marketing effectiveness and ROI had always been a challenge for most businesses. It was easy to put together great marketing campaigns but to know whether they actually delivered incremental sales was the problem. In their guts, marketers knew that the programs worked, but how could they prove it. So, in 2001 I authored the book Return on Marketing Investment: Demand More From Your Marketing and Sales Investments laying out the basics of measurement and connecting the dots between marketing activities and incremental sales. Read more>>

First, I dedicate this article in loving memory to Fredric H. Margolis (1932-2017), my mentor and friend who was instrumental in helping me get to where I am today. Considered by his peers as one of the nation’s leading adult educators and trainers. Fred was a prolific author and pioneer thought leader who challenged the traditional way workers learn and trainers train. He taught me that “Knowing things is not enough. All jobs require the application of this knowledge, which involves the skills of analysis and judgment.” And he showed me that “the best way to learn is to teach others.” Read more>>

I’m one of those kids that always wanted a camera, a darkroom set up and the ability to use them all!! My Dad seem to always be with his Pentax, taking family photos, pictures with his buddies out sailing or hunting. Must be where I got the bug. Fast, real fast forward… I was working at Aerial Innovations in Tampa, Florida as a sales rep., my territory was Orlando. The owner liked that I had a photography background. I called on General Contractors to try to sell construction (progress) photography. I was calling on this Project Manager who was working on the project for the new Disney World Headquarters in Orlando. Read more>>

The Atlanta Baroque Orchestra is celebrating its 20th Anniversary Season this year! This fun and energetic group was founded by Lyle Nordstrom, who at the time was a Professor at Clayton State College (now University). After Lyle’s career path took him away from Atlanta, the orchestra hired John Hsu to lead them; and after John’s retirement, I joined the group as Artistic Director and Concertmaster in 2011. In 1997, playing 17th- and 18th-century music on historical instruments was a relatively new thing, and the then newly formed ABO, as the first baroque orchestra in the Southern states, was an important player in shaping this emerging early-music scene. Read more>>

Originally from New York I went to school for Architecture at Pratt institute, yet my true calling was and still is Interior Design, for which I earned a Bachelors of Arts. Having spent a number of years working at large design firms in Atlanta designing hotel and country club projects, I started Total Concept Interiors in 1990. Although we still do some hospitality work our main focus these days are multi-family communities. As with all other design firms and every housing related business, we had quite a slump following 2008. Read more>>

My Career started in the late 80’s, working in the Fashion and Manufacturing district in New York City. I worked with a few private label companies, working with brands like, Bebe, Cache, Saks, Calvin Klein, J. C. Penny, just to name a few. I worked as technical designer, production coordinator, quality assurance manager. Working with these company, gave me the opportunity to work and gain a vast knowledge in every area of the industry. In 1999 when China and United States reach a Trade agreement, most companies moved most of their manufacturing to China, causing most companies to down size they work force. Read more>>
