Check out Aislinn Rain’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aislinn Rain.

Aislinn, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I come from a long line of artists and creatives. I grew up around paint brushes, fabrics, clay, theatre, and music. My family really instilled in me the value of creativity, so I knew, even at a very young age, that I would make a living doing something that fostered that. When my first child was born that’s when I became infatuated with the art of photography. I could stare at photos of my baby for hours on end. Thus, propelled my journey into photography. Over the course of 15 years I’ve traveled all over the country, training under some of the best in the industry, and growing my own business along the way.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
It’s always been really important to me to document people, their lives, and their relationships as authentically as possible. I think every person has a compelling story to tell and, even in the split second it takes to produce a photo, you can highlight a really cool piece of that story. Life is ever-changing, but a photograph isn’t, and there’s a lot of value in that.

What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I see so many photographers fail, because they don’t understand how to run a business. Artists are notoriously bad at maintaining the business aspect of their creative careers. Any time someone tells me they want to go to school for photography, I tell them to instead go to school for business. There’s nothing romantic about that, but it’s as true as it gets. Passion and creativity alone won’t pay the bills, but a well-run business will.

Keep your head down and stay focused on your art. The second you start looking up and comparing yourself to others around you is the very second self-doubt and insecurities creep in. Be confident in what you do. Be confident even while you fail. Because you will. You’re supposed to. Mess up and mess up often. Your failures are there to teach you. Embrace them, grow, learn, then move on to new failures and new lessons. I suppose that goes for everything in life, not just your art.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
