Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Janelle.
Ashley, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always had a love for photography since the age of eight or nine, specifically taking photos. I used to drive my family crazy as a child because I was always catching the candid shots. My favorite part was and still is the memories that they hold, the stories that they tell, and the love that can be seen and felt with a picture. Photography to me is a passion and I remember when I would see people with professional family photos that they would have framed in their homes and I always wanted those in our home, but my mother couldn’t afford them. We only had the pictures from the disposable cameras and some polaroid’s.
As I got older and had children myself, still desiring professional photos to hang in my home I started researching and found many public places that offered photo sessions, not too expensive, but to me, they were lacking in creativity and options. Each time we wen I will never forget the photographers posed us in the same sequence of poses. Later finding out because they were not professionals and lacked training so for lighting purposes they had to follow the store’s policy and light positioning. That was when I decided to invest in my first DSLR and pursue my passion. I knew then I wanted to offer affordable professional photography that displayed creativity to all people whether they be aspiring models looking to build their portfolio, or a couple on a budget looking for quality wedding photography, or a family seeking fun, creative family photos.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I capture all things around us! Anything that catches my eye, that holds beauty and a story. It could be a family, individual, or an object. I capture memories!
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
As an artist, I define success as personal satisfaction. An artist is successful when they reach their personal goal, whatever it is. As an artist, I feel that it is essential to always stay true to yourself and your objective when it comes to being successful. Many people will try to define it for you but remember why you do what you do and stay loyal to that!
For example, I am always being encouraged to increase my prices for various reasons, but success for me isn’t based on how much I’m compensated, it’s primarily about providing professional quality photos to people at an affordable rate, so they too can appreciate the luxury of beautiful photo memories.
