Check out Branden Peters, Crystal Thomas, Maurice Garland, and Dusei Da Great

Today we’d like to introduce you to Branden Peters, Crystal Thomas, Maurice Garland, and Dusei Da Great.

Branden, Crystal, Maurice, Dusei, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Like most good ideas, Hip-Hop Trivia ATL was created to fill a need. Atlanta has a lot of turn-up events and a few cool kick-back spots, but there wasn’t really a consistent weekly event that was driven by hip-hop, where people of all backgrounds could come kick it, have a good time and not worry about lines or bottle service. So, in 2016 Branden brought the team together to fill that void with Hip-Hop Trivia ATL. Bar trivia is definitely a thing, but we put a new spin on it and introduced an entirely different audience to it.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Hip-Hop Trivia ATL is basically bar trivia meets karaoke meets a party. Each and every Wednesday we have a different timely theme that we ask questions about, while Dusei Da Great provides the accompanying soundtrack. There is a lot of ageism in hip-hop nowadays, so we do our best to educate, entertain and inform our audience, which ranges from the early ’20s to early ’40s, on the entire spectrum of hip-hop culture.

The stereotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
Know your worth and never buy into the starving artist energy. Do what you love, market your product/service properly, be intentional with your moves and things will work out in the long run.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
You can follow us on @hiphoptrivaatl or if you’re in the A, pull up on us every Wednesday from 8-11pm at 656 Sports Bar and Grille.
