Check out Debbi Snax’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbi Snax.

Debbi , we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a true Georgia peach . I was born and raised here on the southside of Atlanta. I can’t pin point exactly when i started this journey but I feel as though I’ve always been an Artist in some way or another my entire life. I was constantly drawing or making little doodles here and there when I was younger but it was never serious until I got into high school. I had this cool ass art teacher Mrs Teet’s who taught me to embrace my artistic side and gave me the courage to do something with this talent. Immediately after high school I moved to downtown Atlanta to attend ga state and study Art education (like Mrs. Teets) After about two years and my first failing grade I realized that traditional college was not for me. I wanted to do something different with my art so I decided to transfer to full sail University to study digital art and design. Simultaneously I began to get tattooed and started to fall in love with the tattoo culture. . During one of my tattoo sessions I met Magic Juan and somehow I convinced him to give me a tattoo apprenticeship. Shorty after he said yes I dropped school and began to study the art of tattooing . Now , I’ve been tattooing 6 years and I wouldn’t trade it for the world . Recently, within like the last three years, my skills have developed and I decided to expand & challenge myself . So I began painting on a larger scale and eventually I got booked to paint a mural . Once I got my first mural I kept pushin for more & I’ve completed 7 or 8 murals since. To this day I juggle tattooing and painting and try to keep it all together.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art on a day to day is the art of tattooing . I create permanent decorations to boost your love for yourself and your body . Outside of tattooing i paint canvases and murals and whatever Odd artsy job I can get my hands on . Most of my Paintings I try to Include the female form in some way. This is Bc I believe that we women are some of the most spectacular creatures alive. I want my art to convey how Great we are and the natural beauty of the black and brown woman

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
My advice to anyone struggling is, do what you can when you can. Art can literally come from anywhere and anything. Never let the boundaries of money stop you from creating.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
To see my work or to get a tatttoo from me , you can stop by my shop Saints and Sinners Atl between wed-Sunday to check out my portfolios or come in as a Walk-in . If you want to see my mural work you can stop by daydreams off Trinity Ave. or check out My Instagram @snaxink that I update regularly or my website www.Snaxink.com
