Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Gomez.
Gina, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born and raised in New York City. While I have lived other places since the age of 18, my family and I moved back to the city in 2010. In 2011 I started my photography career taking street photos. I photographed everything from street performers to iconic buildings and bridges. I started selling my work that same year.
In 2015 we moved to North Carolina. I was excited to start photographing landscapes, however, interesting scenes ran out fast. It wasn’t New York. So I decided to start offering photography for families. Well I fell in love with it. The great thing about where I live is that we have so many beautiful backdrops for portraits. I live in the mountains of south-western NC. It’s gorgeous here.
In 2017 I started also doing photos in my studio. Now I offer weddings, fine art photography and portraits. I go on location or do them in studio. My business has grown tremendously since moving down here and I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’ve met so many wonderful people, many of whom have become my friends. You don’t get better than that.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I do photography for weddings and families (newborn, baby, couples, maternity, etc.). I also do fine art photography portraits. My photos are different from other photographers in my area because my editing style is truly artistic. When I give my clients their photos I want them to frame them and hang them on their walls. I want them to see themselves as beautiful. Whenever I edit a photo I try to make everyone look their best. I can’t tell you how many clients have used my photos as their Facebook profile photos. That is the best.
Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
For me, it’s the fact that there are so many photographers where I live. The competition is very hard. Since digital photography, anyone can pick up a camera and do photos. Fortunately, most of my business comes from repeat and referral clients. And social media helps a lot.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
