Check out Koko Robinson’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koko Robinson.

Koko, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Just a 21-year-old visual artist from South Carolina. I was studying psychology at Clemson University which was smooth initially, but college will be college and that soon roughened up. In my time of struggle with school and my social life, a close family member of mine past away and her energy, uncontrollably, drew me back to my love towards all things creative, all things that I seemed to lose appreciation for. So I changed my major at Clemson University to visual art with an emphasis in printmaking. As much as I wanted Clemson University to be the place for me, I soon realized that it is not. The art program wasn’t challenging enough compared to how tedious and expensive it was to be in it. So I started painting and sent my transcript to Savannah College of Art and Design.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is me and everyone else. I am a healer, and my art helps me work towards that purpose. I create all things visual in whatever medium I’m into. I make original creations, recreations, and things that I feel needs visual expression. I hope people just are able to feel something when viewing my work; I want them to understand that it’s okay to feel especially when we don’t understand what and why we are feeling. You all should know that all my work is made with love because I truly love what I do.

Given everything that is going on in the world today, do you think the role of artists has changed? How do local, national or international events and issues affect your art?
I think that the role of artists is changing, but I don’t think this is an unfamiliar role for us. Events in the world influences my art; the events let me know that the people will always need healing and that’s what I do through my art. It’s like worldly events are the symptoms of sick patients and I treat it via creativity.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
The people can view my work via social media as of right now. There you can support by following my pages and hashtags, so you never miss a beat. You can support by submitting purchases and commissioned orders directly or buying pieces through my Etsy Shop.
