Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey P. Emery.
Lindsey, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am Lindsey, wife, mother, and artist. My husband and I were raising our three kids when in 2011 I was diagnosed with Stage II Hodgkins Lymphoma. For those that don’t know that is cancer of your lymphatic system. This cancer affects your entire immune drainage system that gets rid of all the waste from your cells. I underwent chemo for six months, lost my hair and, barely survived the side effects of chemo. After ending treatment, I began painting while my body was still in pain from the effects of all the drugs. I needed a way to get my mind on God the Father and His goodness. My artwork is what was birthed from that season. Every piece I paint is unique, and I truly use the time I paint to worship the Creator who so graciously spared my life. My art I hope will tell a story of His goodness and love.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art is layer upon layer of paint. I use acrylic on canvas to create art. All of my art is created to inspire health and to point people to God. My art is free-flowing and loose, and I create lots of texture using palette knives.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Art changes but the core of why people create haven’t. Art is to inspire and to point people back to hope. Without hope, we perish. Our hope rests in eternal things, and artwork takes us to beauty and places of healing.
