Today we’d like to introduce you to Martine Beher.
Martine, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always loved art and photography. My family had nice cameras and someone was always taking pictures. It really wasn’t surprise that by the time I got to college I was majoring in photography. But unfortunately, I was concerned I would always be a struggling starving artist and decided to go into business instead. Where by a series of temp jobs kind of fell into being a paralegal for real estate. But, then, I had my daughter and like all obsessed and in love moms, I picked up my camera to photograph every moment and proudly show off this amazing person my husband and I had brought into the world. Friends and family began to ask if I’d take pictures of their kids, and so began my journey into being a full time working photographer. I have innate love of the world and enjoy photographing almost all things. I’ve dabbled in real estate, product photography, branding photography, and currently focus mostly on families and weddings.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a photographer. I don’t necessarily feel like I would limit myself to being a wedding photographer or a family photographer. I’d rather consider myself a “jack of all trades” photographer. I enjoy learning new tips and tricks and ways of photographing people and the world around me.
I have an authentic organic style. I enjoy making people comfortable in front of the camera and capturing the true emotions I see. I love using light as part of my story telling. Whether it’s the sun or flash or natural ambient window light. I was inspired originally by the movie “Pride and Prejudice” with Keira Knightly. The cinematography in that movie and the way they used light to craft the story, it just made me want to have pictures that captured that in my life. I am always looking for that perfect light, the perfect sun flare. I want to use it to craft the story of the image just like I was inspired by the movie.
What do you know now that you wished you had learned earlier?
I wish I would have learned earlier to stay true to what I love and what style really represents me. Instead of trying to stay with the trends, so that I would get hired. The only way people are really going to feel what you do is important and real, is if you feel connected to your work. The connection others feel through your work is what will drive you as an artist and people to hire you.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
People can see my work at http://www.photographybymartine.com and http://www.instagram.com/martinebphotos. Support me by hiring me to tell your story or to capture or your important moments!
