Today we’d like to introduce you to Onyx Simpson.
Onyx, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My background was light in film production and acting. A year ago, a goal of mine was to live in a two-story studio space. The bottom floor would be a large movie theater for indie filmmakers, theater performances, and a grand movie theater to watch Netflix. The top floor, I imagined a studio loft area for filming and photography. Pie Pixel Studios was just a piece of this whole dream I created in my head. The start of the bigger picture.
I’m not a professional photographer. I don’t have a leg up over anyone in the field or a huge clientele. I just am a nice person who was given a big responsibility from tossing an idea out to fellow Bakery Atlanta members about having a photography studio. The elements of this photography studio consisted of tools from self-taping for acting auditions to rentals to the help of music videos.
When I met Annie Churdar I never expected that a meeting would turn into a great friendship. After Annie and Amanda Archambault owned a space in West End for a month, they were giving away pieces from the old photography studio. This is how the idea of having a photography studio turned into a reality-fast.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Photography is a hobby of mine. I’ve enjoyed doing this since I was in middle school but acting is actually my true love.
When I dive into a character I am never afraid to be vulnerable. I stay true to the story and my role to help directors, writers, or producers tell their story. I’m working on singing and dancing to help add layers to myself as a performer. Feel free to check me out at onyxsimpson.weebly.com.
That being said if any photographers need a subject and a studio, then I’m your girl. Also, if any models need any shots taken, feel free to look at some of my work.
How can artists connect with other artists?
Every true artist that is serious about their craft knows the feeling of being lonely. Once you realize your reason for being it consumes you. It’s really only scary because you realize that everything that happened in your life before you knew was just an experience to help influence your first creations.
If you want some lifelong friends, my suggestion is to go to the Bakery Atlanta to find out about events that interests you or set up an appointment to be a part of a growing community. You should never have to create alone. =)
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
