Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaliyah Coleman.
Hi Aaliyah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, I always admired taking photographs of nature when I went on hikes or just regular walks outside. In 2017, I bought my first ever Canon and I had no idea how to use it, so I self-taught myself. As I became skilled in doing that, I continued to take photos, but now trying out Portrait photography on my friends & trying too also creative direct on the side. My friends never really knew how to model so I stepped in to make sure that they were as comfortable as possible with whatever I had them do! It was super fun just doing it for a hobby, then I thought I could really envision myself excelling with my gift! One of my perspectives in life is to chase your passion as much as possible. Having that mindset has got me places I wouldn’t have imagined that I’m super grateful for!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some struggles along the way have been mainly providing certain equipment for my shoots. In the end, I did make ends meet and just worked with whatever I had so that was super empowering for me to know that I am capable of continuously pouring creative ideas as I go!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Photographer & Creative Director. I specialize in visual arts. I am extremely proud of having my Visuals being Displayed in two Art shows in one year! What sets me apart from others is I guess I necessarily don’t have to try too hard focusing on a message being sent to the collective I kind of just let my creative energy flow! Whatever I feel like doing with this shoot, this is what it’ll be!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to people who are just starting out doing anything they want is to keep at it no matter if you’re not getting recognition right away, doing what you love & how it makes you feel is important to you first!
